Administrative Assistant for the Larne Empowers Success Program

Job Summary:
The job of Administrative Assistant is done for the purposes of maintaining overall site operations; receiving, distributing, and communicating information to enforce school, district, and state policies; maintaining the safety of the school environment; coordinating school activities; communicating information to staff; and addressing situations, problems, and/or conflicts that could negatively impact the school.

The Administrator focuses on the effective operation, compliance, and academic achievement of students in special education programs. This role collaborates with teachers, support staff, related service providers, and families to ensure a high-quality, inclusive educational experience for all students with disabilities.
Essential Functions:
- Skilled in facilitating difficult conversations with families and team members while maintaining a student-centered focus
- Oversees the design and fidelity of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and ensures alignment with student IEPs and data-driven decision-making.
- Strong leadership in de-escalation and crisis prevention, with the ability to guide staff in high-stress behavioral situations.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, including school psychologists, counselors, and behavior specialists, to support students with complex needs.
- Oversee the school crisis team and train/inform staff on school crisis
- Support the implementation of specially designed instruction across self-contained settings.
- Facilitate data-driven instruction and monitor student progress toward IEP goals.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to special education teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Collaborate with the behavior interventionists and school psychologist to support students with intensive needs.
- Serve as a liaison during manifestation determination meetings and disciplinary actions involving students with disabilities.
- Ensure adherence to all IDEA, Section 504, and ADA regulations.
- Monitor timelines and procedures for IEP development, reevaluation, and eligibility determinations.
- Attend and facilitate IEP meetings, ensuring parent involvement and procedural safeguards are upheld.
- Coordinate and lead professional development sessions related to special education compliance, instructional strategies, and inclusive practices.
- Serve as the administrative contact for families of students with disabilities.
- Foster collaboration between general and special educators.
- Communicate effectively with families, staff, and outside agencies regarding student needs and services.
- Evaluates assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring that standards are achieved and performance is maximized.
- Facilitates the development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of quality learning for the purpose of enhancing excellence, equality, and equity for staff and students.
- Implements policies, procedures, and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
- Leads the development and alignment of the school, instructional mode, and evaluation strategies for the purpose of expanding and implementing teaching and learning.
- Supervises school personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing professional growth, achieving overall objectives of the school’s curriculum, and achieving academic and socio-emotional growth for all students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience & Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of successful teaching experience in special education.
- Experience leading or participating in IEP meetings as an LEA representative.
- Strong knowledge of IDEA, FAPE, LRE, 504, and other relevant laws and compliance protocols.
- Experience in behavior intervention strategies and supporting students with emotional/behavioral disorders.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time while attending meetings or supervising students and teachers.
- Ability to move about the classroom and school campus, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
- Must be able to operate standard classroom equipment and technology.
- Must be able to lift boxes of instructional materials, equipment, and student belongings.
- Ability to supervise in various settings (classroom, hallways, playground, cafeteria, field trips).
- Ability to work in a standard school environment, which may include exposure to moderate noise levels, outdoor weather conditions, and occasional exposure to cleaning agents and allergens.
- Ability to supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and extracurricular activities, which may involve outdoor monitoring and extended periods of standing.
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations, which may require running short distances, assisting students, or intervening in behavioral incidents.
Terms of Employment:
- 210 days per school year; Salary based on District Scale for Teachers plus Stipend
