Overview
The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment (LCDHE) is hiring a full-time Health Equity Initiatives Coordinator to join our team!
This position will be responsible for creating and implementing organization goals, projects, and activities that build internal capacity to address health inequities. We are looking for someone who can evaluate the social and structural barriers to health and well-being and who demonstrates a commitment and passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge about race/ethnicity, poverty, discrimination, sexual or gender identity, disability, and other drivers of health outcomes as well as a good understanding of the Social Determinants of Health.
Responsibilities
Specifically, this position:
- Uses relevant public health data, personal lived experience and experience of others to help the organization positively impact health for under-resourced individuals and communities.
- Supports the development of partnerships and engagement opportunities with a broad range of professional and community partners and workgroups to incorporate community voices into health department policies, processes, and decisions.
- Collaborates with managers and supervisors to ensure equitable service provision, planning, and regulation. Coordinates efforts to incorporate justice principles into programming.
- Assists in planning and facilitating projects from start to finish, including by designing training and using technical assistance methods, tools, and materials.
- Supports processes to identify challenges and opportunities to improve racial, ethnic, access, and identity needs and suggests areas to further develop programming.
- Reviews grants and programs for cultural appropriateness and inclusivity.
- Participates in assigned strategic planning, departmental and community workgroups, and works with supervisors to make necessary changes.
- Creates measurable health and equity goals that align with LCDHE's strategic plan.
- Assesses, evaluates and continually reports on organization progress toward equity goals.
- Researches and recommends appropriate organization-wide professional development and training and supports the development of a systematic process for recruitment, hiring, promotion, and retention using an equity framework.
- Leads an organizational Health Equity Core Team and develops and implements a Health Equity action plan.

We are looking for a candidate that will:
- Navigate systems for under-resourced communities, and be familiar with local community resources, emergency services, and social service agencies, especially those from historically marginalized populations.
- Think strategically and deliver technically.
- Work with and advocate for under-resourced individuals, families, and communities.
- Have a clear understanding of social needs, social determinants of health, and health equity.
- Understand social justice or social/health policy.
- Be familiar with project and program management.
- Have experience with communications and/or marketing.
- Facilitate or coordinate appropriate training.
- Work well in a professional team environment, including respect for different styles and personalities, enthusiasm for collaboration, and strong communication skills.
- Work with diverse partners and leverage areas of expertise.
- Perform duties independently without close supervision and with a high degree of organization.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of principles of trust, respect for diversity, equity, fairness, and institutional poverty or discrimination around ethnicity, race, gender, socio-economic background, political beliefs, sexual orientation, disability, and the social determinants of health.
Qualifications
All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Three (3) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.

Supplemental Information
The typical schedule for this position is 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. Successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
Assessment testing may be administered.
