Responsibilities
What you'll be doing:
- Exercise direct supervision over professional and administrative staff.
- Assign, direct, and supervise activities of assigned staff, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards; administers or makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, scheduling work hours, granting leave, appraising performance, disciplining, and submitting such records and reports as required by County policies and procedures.
- Act as a subject matter expert for environmental engineering design, remediation, and regulatory determinations.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on environmental issues and operational needs.
- Oversee and manage the Household Hazardous Waste Operations, including assisting with investigations and enforcement of illegal disposal of hazardous waste.
- Evaluate and supervise County hazardous waste disposal contractors and disposal sites.
- Prepare and request proposals or bids; participates in the selection process; may manage contract.
What We're Looking For
- General office practices and procedures.
- Routine software and business applications, including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, virtual meeting and collaboration software, and databases.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Read and comprehend department and County rules, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
- Regular, predictable attendance.
- Supervisory principles, procedures, and methods, including selection, training, discipline, and evaluation.
- Leadership methods and management skills.

- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field required.
- Five (5) years of experience in solid waste, landfill engineering, environmental compliance or a related discipline required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Environmental Engineering preferred.
