Job Summary (VMWare Infrastructure Engineer) Crownsville, MD
- Implement and maintain a highly available, secure, and resilient VMware enterprise virtualization environment for the State of Maryland.
- Ensure operational stability and uptime for VMware-based infrastructure platforms supporting critical production systems.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and remediation for Windows Server OS vulnerabilities, especially when automated patching fails.
- Analyze and interpret CBS.log, DISM.log, and WindowsUpdate.log files for patching and update issues.
- Utilize DISM and SFC utilities for system integrity and health repairs.
- Develop PowerShell scripts to automate Windows Update Agent resets and cache clearing.
- Troubleshoot disk space issues, especially with System Reserved Partition and Volume Shadow Copies.
- Identify and resolve conflicts between Windows Trusted Installer and EDR/Antivirus agents.
- Administer and manage large-scale VMware environments, including vSphere, vCenter Server, and ESXi hosts/clusters.
- Design, configure, and optimize virtual infrastructure for performance, capacity, and scalability.
- Implement and manage high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions, conduct DR testing and ensure business continuity.
- Integrate VMware platforms with enterprise storage systems (SAN/NAS, vSAN) and coordinate with storage teams (e.g., NetApp, Infinidat).
- Support and align core infrastructure services (DNS, DHCP, IPAM, networking) with enterprise network architecture.
- Apply security hardening to hypervisors and management planes, and enforce east-west traffic controls within virtual environments.
- Support vulnerability remediation, compliance requirements, and maintain adherence to state/enterprise security policies.
- Provide Tier 3 support for incidents, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and maintain documentation.
- Participate in on-call rotations and after-hours support for critical outages.
- Execute changes in accordance with change management processes, maintain documentation, and participate in CAB reviews.
- Support audit requests and regulatory compliance activities.
