About our Club
Laredo Country Club provides a family oriented social setting devoted to 800 families, promoting exceptional sport, dining, and recreational experiences. With an 18 Hole golf course, driving range, 11 lit tennis courts, 3 lit pickleball courts, a basketball court, athletic field, 4 banquet halls, a fitness center and 3 restaurants. In March 2026, we will open a new Restaurant/Bar next to the Tennis/Pool, a new Tennis Pro Shop and newly renovated Aquatics Center. Laredo Country Club is "Our Family's Second Home". In line with the club's mission and vision, the club is setting their sights in the future developing a club wide master plan including major upgrades to the club house and golf course.
The Club has a professional and dedicated staff in place, many of whom have served the membership for over 10 years. The 45,000 square foot clubhouse has flexible design permitting member activities and banquet functions to be held simultaneously without conflict. The Club frequents upgrades and current plans call for a continuation of these ongoing enhancements. The Club is situated as the centerpiece for the finest residential area in the city.

Position Description
Essential Responsibilities
The desired Lead Tennis Professional for The Laredo Country Club will be responsible for many typical duties found at high-end, private tennis/golf country clubs. Responsible for being attentive to all members and guests needs while maintaining a clean, organized work environment throughout all of the tennis operations.
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Welcoming members and their guests to create a world-class experience at our high-end and private facility.
- He or she will be an ambassador for the game of tennis/pickleball to our members, guests, and employees.
- Weekly operating responsibilities may include: private classes, clinics, leagues, tournaments, special events and tennis pro shop hours.
- Pickleball privates, clinics, and special events are available.
- Working with our members at all ages and levels and providing a daily presence in the tennis pro shop, tennis courts, and throughout the club.
- Teaching members of all ages and abilities. In both private/semi-private classes and junior/adult tennis and pickleball clinics.
- Directing or assisting with junior tennis development initiatives and player development.
- Directing or assisting with assigned member tournaments/events giving our members a five-star tournament experience.
- Assistance with tennis racquet stringing/merchandising, and tennis pro shop responsibilities.
The right candidate will be career goal-oriented and have the drive to grow, learn, and progress themselves as a tennis professional at one of the best facilities in the country.
Experience Required
The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:
- Minimum of four years of full-time tennis teaching experience (or equivalent of).
- He or she must have a strong desire for a career opportunity at The Laredo Country Club with outstanding people skills and have the five-star member service at all times.
- Strong background in Junior Tennis Development, from Red Ball, Orange Ball, Green Ball, Yellow Ball, and High Performance Tennis Training. Importance of the Athletic Development Model in your coaching resume.
- Minimum teaching 40 hours/week of private classes and clinics.
- Teaching experience with the willingness to learn and adapt and emphasis in developing strong junior and adult programs. An extensive background in developing excellent junior tournament players.
- Tournament operations background along with providing an exceptional member/guest experience. Knowledge with USTA tennis sanctioned tournaments and UTR programming.
- Pickleball experience teaching and tournaments.

Staff Bios
Michael Mainhart, PGA
General Manager
Originally a native of Ohio, Mike moved to Laredo in 2007 to pursue his bachelors in Fitness & Sports as TAMIU and play for the Dustdevils Baseball and Golf teams. During his senior year, Mike joined the golf staff at Laredo Country Club to learn more about the industry. Upon graduation in 2011, he entered the PGM program to pursue his Class A PGA membership while working as an Assistant Professional under Jeremiah Cabrera, PGA. After being elected to PGA membership in the fall of 2016, Mike was named the 6th Head Golf Professional of Laredo Country Club. In the summer of 2020, Mike was promoted as the 7th General Manager of Laredo Country Club.
He is currently pursuing his Certified PGA Professional status through the PGA of America as well as his Certified Club Manager certification through the Club Managers Association of America. Most importantly, Mike shares his joy with his beautiful family, wife Dr. Mery Cortes and their two young children Claire & Michael.
Mike Welnetz, USPTA, Director of Sports
Mike has been Director of Tennis since 1993. He has a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Also, Mike has a Bachelors of Science in Education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Before teaching tennis full-time, Mike worked a manager at K-Mart Corp. and a high school social studies teacher/coach in Wisconsin. Since 1981, Mike has taught and directed tennis programs in Brookfield, WI, Wausau, WI, and Peoria, IL.
Mike has developed many players both juniors and adults. He has trained many juniors who have played college tennis and have become full-time tennis professionals.
