Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Career Navigator plays a vital role in mentoring and supporting students engaged in applied learning experiences through the Career Services & Innovation Center,  the Entrepreneurship and Leadership Development Incubators at Laredo College. Working closely with the Career Development Coordinator, and Director,  the navigator helps students pursue entrepreneurial ventures, develop leadership competencies, and strengthen workforce readiness. This position ensures that students are effectively guided through every stage of the incubator or workforce development experience, from idea generation to project execution, while fostering reflective learning, innovation, and personal growth.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Student Support & Community Engagement
  • Serve as the primary coach and mentor for students participating in the Entrepreneurship & Leadership Development Incubators, and Workforce Readiness initiatives.
  • Support students in applying leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to real-world workforce and entrepreneurial challenges.
  • Maintain regular communication with students to address concerns, celebrate milestones, and offer individualized guidance.
  • Facilitate small group coaching sessions, check-ins, and reflective discussions that promote teamwork, accountability, and personal growth.
  • Assist in coordinating project planning meetings, incubator sessions, and networking events.
  • Promote and encourage student participation in workshops, service activities, and community engagement opportunities that complement program goals.
  • Support outreach and promotional efforts in collaboration with the Career Development Coordinator, including student success stories and recruitment.
  • Support the Career Development Coordinator with digital marketing initiatives 
  • Be available to travel for professional development and community partnerships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Coaching & Mentorship
  • Guide students through all stages of their entrepreneurial development journey, including idea generation, planning, execution, reflection, and presentation.
  • Provide targeted coaching in areas such as project management, ethical decision-making, team collaboration, business strategy, and workforce preparation 
  • Assist students with venture competition preparation, including refining business ideas, validating concepts, and delivering professional presentations.
  • Encourage reflective learning by helping students connect incubator and workforce experiences with personal leadership and career goals.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community mentors to align student activities with leadership development and workforce readiness objectives.
  • Support continuous improvement of the entrepreneurship and leadership incubators by providing feedback to staff.

Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure students understand and follow institutional policies, professional conduct expectations, and incubator/workforce program protocols.
  • Monitor adherence to project and program timelines, roles, and deliverables in compliance with college standards and partner agreements.
  • Document coaching interactions, student progress, and program developments for assessment and reporting purposes.
  • Track student outcomes during and post-program to measure impact and support long-term engagement.

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing & Communications, Organizational Leadership, or related field
  • Experience in coaching, advising, and mentoring or related field.
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Marketing & Communications, Organizational Leadership, or related field
  • Experience in career counseling and/or small business advising.
  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of online technology such as Learning Management Systems, Zoom, Microsoft Office applications, Canva, Adobe. 
  • Time and project management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team.
Introductory Review Period
All hires are subject to a 90 day introductory review period.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.  
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment.    
Work inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time.  
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Salary : $41,832 - $50,400
