POSITION SUMMARY
An Animal Shelter Data Specialist manages critical information on animals, adoptions, medical records, and donors using shelter software to ensure data accuracy, supper operations, and generate reports for better animal welfare outcomes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Accurately input and update animal details, medical histories, adoption records, and donor info into the shelter's database.
· Research and resolve data discrepancies, flag inconsistencies, and ensure data integrity across platforms.
· Compile metrics, create standardized reports, and help identify trends to inform shelter strategy (e.g., adoption rates, intake/outcome data).
· Maintain records, manage shared inboxes, and support staff with data-related questions.
· Document procedures to improve data collection and knowledge sharing.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
· Must be at least a high school graduate (or equivalent) and possess a valid driver’s license
· Must be able to speak in both English and Spanish
· Must be in good physical condition, energetic, and able to work 7 days/week, including some holidays and weekends
· Experience in animal welfare, shelter, or customer service preferred, but not required.
· Must be responsible, reliable, and comfortable with animals
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Proficiency with database software, MS Office, and data cleaning.
· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
· Ability to follow oral and written instructions
· Learn and use shelter software
· Be organized, detail-oriented and have strong time management skills
· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public, volunteers, staff, and management
· Recognize and interpret animal signals in an efficient manner
· Work with frequent interruption and changes in priorities
· Perform all physical requirements of the position
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical requirements include frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and greater than 50 pounds with assistance, as well as hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity. Subject to climbing, kneeling, lifting, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and walking to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are inside and outside with frequent exposure to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, noise, dirty environment, confining workspace and unfavorable odors. This position requires working rotating schedules and weekends.
