What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kitchen Assistant position at Laramie Soup Kitchen?
Kitchen Assistant
Sometimes the chance comes up to be a part of something really special. The Laramie Soup Kitchen is making sure that those in our community who are hungry or lonely have a place to share a hot, nutritious meal. Our staff members are essential to this mission and consistently provide a level of excellence that is unmatched. This is an opportunity for you to join that team!
A successful Kitchen Assistant will not necessarily have food service experience. Instead, a willingness to learn and a love for food is what you’ll need to be a great addition to our team! A strong work ethic and people skills are a must as well.
People work here because they care deeply about the well-being of those in our community and enjoy collaborating to achieve shared goals. Beyond feeling great about the work, close-knit relationships often develop among coworkers and lead to various staff gatherings and activities outside of work. Other perks include weekends off, negotiable schedules – perfect for those who are taking classes or working an evening job - and an opportunity to share each day’s meal together as a team!
Organization History:
In the early 1980’s, a group of local church women began preparing meals in their own homes to distribute to 10-12 people who were in need. While the Durlacher house on South 5th Street was a central location for several years, the lower-level of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Cathedral has been the Laramie Soup Kitchen’s home since 1988. The Soup Kitchen now serves 120 to 200 people per day and is still driven by that same passion: to increase access to quality, nutritious food so that every person who is hungry or alone may share a meal without cost.
