JOB DESCRIPTION: Sports Paraprofessional
POSITION SUMMARY:
- The Sports Paraprofessional is responsible for providing support to special education students in school sponsored sports and activities.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Sports Paraprofessional:
- Assists special education students in assigned sport/activity in a manner that allows student to participate in the sport/activity with peers. *
- Attends meetings (e.g., in-service presentations and staff meetings) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. *
- Communicates with supervising staff and other personnel for the purpose of assisting the student in assigned sport/activity. *
- Evaluates students during the course of practices/competitions to ensure student participation. *
- Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of ensuring students are in a safe and appropriate environment. *
- Manages a variety of assigned activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal sporting environment. *
- Monitors students during sports/activities within a variety of environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive environment. *
- Provides feedback of observations for the purpose of informing coaches and administrators of student progress. *
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources for the purpose of solving problems, providing information, and directing to other sources. *
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. *
- Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District. *
- Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model. *

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
Mandatory: Minimum of high school education or GED.
Preferred: 1 years of experience working in a school is preferred.
