JOB DESCRIPTION: Secondary Math Interventionist

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Secondary Math Interventionist provides targeted, evidence-based instruction to students in grades 6–12 who require specialized support in mathematics. This role focuses on diagnosing specific gaps in mathematical understanding and delivering impactful interventions that equip students with the skills necessary to access and succeed in grade-level math content. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of how mathematical concepts are developed and remediated in adolescent learners, fostering an environment that builds problem-solving skills, conceptual understanding, and academic confidence.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Secondary Math Interventionist:

  1. Designs and delivers targeted, evidence-based math interventions for individuals and small groups of students in grades 6–12. *
  1. Provides instruction in foundational and advanced mathematical concepts, including number sense, operations, algebraic reasoning, and problem-solving strategies. *
  1. Scaffolds instruction to help students successfully engage with grade-level mathematical content across disciplines. *
  1. Integrates instruction focused on conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning. *
  1. Creates a supportive learning environment that builds students’ confidence and persistence in mathematics. *
  1. Provides equity in the classroom by providing equal opportunity for students regardless of race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, background, and abilities. *
  1. Communicates with and constantly strives to maintain a positive relationship with students and parents. *
  1. Administers and interprets screening and diagnostic math assessments to identify specific gaps in learning. *
  1. Monitors student progress using progress monitoring tools along with formative and summative data. *
  1. Maintains accurate, up-to-date records of student performance and intervention goals. *
  1. Manages student behavior in the classroom. *
  1. Collaborates with content-area teachers to align intervention strategies and schedules with Tier I math instruction.
  1. Serves as a math resource for secondary staff, sharing knowledge of intervention strategies and best practices in math instruction.
  1. Maintains compliance with any state or district-level mathematics or intervention mandates. *
  1. Organizes the classroom to promote learning, student safety, and ensures classroom equipment functions in a safe manner. *
  1. Responds appropriately to student behavior in the total school environment by enforcing school rules in hallways, on school grounds, in other school areas away from the classroom, and on school-sponsored trips. *
  1. Participates in professional growth (such as professional organizations, coursework, workshops, and conferences) and other professional activities (such as school and/or District committees, taskforces, in-depth studies, or councils). *
  1. Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District. *
  1. Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model. *
  1. Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability This role requires specialized expertise in secondary mathematics instruction and intervention that extends beyond general classroom teaching. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to identify and remediate gaps in mathematical understanding for students who have experienced prolonged academic challenges. This includes expertise in diagnosing misconceptions in number sense, proportional reasoning, algebraic thinking, and problem-solving processes.
  • The ideal candidate possesses a strong ability to use data to design targeted, age-appropriate interventions that accelerate learning while rebuilding student confidence in mathematics. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate skill in connecting foundational concepts to grade-level expectations, enabling students to access increasingly rigorous mathematical content and apply their learning across disciplines.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:                  Bachelor's Degree; secondary math teaching certification from the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board.

 

Work Experience:      Experience working with students with mathematical learning difficulties or skill deficits.

-                Mental Requirements: read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile, and coordinate information and records.

-                Additional Work Conditions and Physical Abilities: May require travel to multiple sites.

EVALUATION

-       Evaluation of this position shall be by the Principal/Asst. Principal.

Salary : $54,000 - $85,796
