Do you have an eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and a passion for connecting people with library materials? The Laramie County Library System is seeking an Acquisitions & Cataloging Coordinator to support the development and maintenance of our collections.


In this role, you'll work behind the scenes to ensure library materials are accurately ordered, received, cataloged, and prepared for public use. Responsibilities include managing acquisitions workflows, maintaining bibliographic and item records, processing invoices, tracking collection funds and expenditures, reconciling orders with vendor invoices, and monitoring budgets to ensure accurate financial reporting.


The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working with data and financial records, proficient with technology, and committed to maintaining high standards of accuracy. Experience with acquisitions, cataloging, purchasing, invoicing, or budget tracking is highly desirable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinates the acquisition of library materials, including standing orders and other recurring acquisitions, from order through receipt; manages claims and vendor follow-up for outstanding or cancelled orders.

2. Records acquisitions budget transactions, including expenditures, encumbrances and fund balances, ensuring accurate financial tracking and reconciliation with the Business Office.

3. Performs original and complex copy cataloguing for a variety of library materials; ensures consistent application of cataloging and metadata standards; evaluates and corrects bibliographic and item records to maintain database integrity.

4. Maintains accurate bibliographic, item, holdings, and authority records in accordance with established cataloging standards and network requirements.

5. Collaborates with selectors, library staff, and volunteers to coordinate cataloging and processing activities and support timely access to library collections.

6. Represents the Library in professional activities and collaborative projects; contributes to systemwide teams and strategic initiatives; serves on behalf of the Cataloging Supervisor when assigned.

7. Delivers and models high-quality customer service aligned with Library standards.

8. Interprets and applies Library policies and procedures; supports a safe and welcoming environment by appropriately addressing patron concerns and Library Rules issues.

9. Maintains current knowledge of Library services, resources, and operational practices.

10. Performs other duties as assigned, including working at public service points.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years of relevant experience; or

· The equivalent combination of education and experience


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

· Knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system, MARC format, AACR2 cataloging rules, Library of Congress Subject Headings, basic library operations, and bibliographic authority control.

· Basic accounting skills, including expenditure tracking and account reconciliation.

· Effective oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write the English language.

· Ability to effectively and efficiently utilize and search computerized bibliographic databases applicable to cataloging functions, such as OCLC and WYLD.

· Ability to work with limited supervision, with an aptitude for detailed work and proficiency in prioritizing tasks.

· Accurate numerical and alphabetical filing skills.

· Ability to enter data into computerized databases, spreadsheets, documents, and other systems.

WORK SCHEDULE

Work schedules are predominantly office hours but may also include evenings and weekends. Employees must be available to work anytime the library is open.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The essential duties and responsibilities of this job require the employee to move or manipulate equipment, boxes, records, files, and stacks of material weighing up to 50 pounds from one location to another.
