The Student Assistant role for Academic Affairs is a part-time, non-benefited, position that requires current enrollment as an LCCC student and requires Federal Work Study eligibility. This position is responsible for assisting offices throughout Academic Affairs with routine tasks that support the records retention operations of the division. These tasks include but are not limited to clerical work such as filing, scanning, sorting, data, entry, copying, on-campus deliveries, answering phones, providing general customer services, and supporting special projects. This position is responsible for confidential documents, supporting the logistical and operational functions, and maintaining information on college, state, and federal reporting. Individuals in this position are expected to represent the division and LCCC in a professional manner and adhere to applicable policies and procedures.

Students in this position benefit from engaging work that impacts all areas in Academic Affairs. As a result, the Student Assistant develops a broad understanding of how complex and impactful processes are carried out at LCCC.

Compensation: $13.33/hr.

Starting Date: As soon as practical after the hiring process. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: – this position is non-exempt and is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.  This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned).

Office Support:  Enhances operations in Academic Affairs by conducting accurate and timely clerical functions in the fulfillment of routine tasks. Sample responsibilities include:
  • Creating and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records through data entry to various software products such as CourseDog, Smartsheet, and Adobe.
  • Support general operating procedures through organizational tasks by assisting with office communications via phone, email, and in person. 
  • Demonstrating advanced working knowledge of personal computing applications, specifically Microsoft Office Suite, which is foundational to our routine tasks.
Special Projects: Supports initiatives and assignments to Academic Affairs by coordinating with staff in the Senior Vice President, Academic Affairs’ office in completing tasks as assigned. Sample expectations include:
  • Reading, interpreting, and creating instructions in oral, written, or diagram form. 
  • Supporting time-based requests and functioning effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicating and planning accordingly with the assigned supervisor to develop and establish a work schedule for the semester. Promptly expressing any changes to established schedules and seeking advanced approval for known schedule conflicts or requests.
  • Notify and elevate concerns to the appropriate supervisor regarding any issues, barriers, or concerns regarding task completion, customer concerns, or the general work environment.
Collaboration and Team Functions: Serves as a valued member of Academic Affairs by demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to work effectively with a diverse community. Work towards this outcome is characterized by:
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Maintains appropriate composure and confidentiality.
  • Complies with inflexible deadlines. Demonstrates the ability to shift focal points quickly due to interruptions.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: 

  • Ability to effectively listen and perceive the nature of sounds and spoken words at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound
  • Engage in multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled as an LCCC student and requires Federal Work Study eligibility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Highly organized, attentive to detail, and ability to multi-task
  • High comfort level when confronted with new technology
