Lanterns Global is a company that specializes in outdoor educational programs. We offer marine biology programs, Spanish immersion programs, and foreign language tutoring. We have been delivering unique outdoor learning experiences to homeschoolers for over seven years and our team continues to grow!

Tides is a three-hour drop-off Marine Biology experience for children grades 1st-8th, and we rotate through different beaches in Santa Cruz, CA. Nature journals in-hand, students learn about marine creatures, marine plants, birds, tide pools, ecosystems, and sustainability, all in a hands-on, exploratory learning environment. These are small group classes of up to 12 students per group.

Our Ideal Beach-Loving Candidate:

  • You are fully committed to supporting the Head Teacher.
  • You have experience as a teacher, babysitter, nanny, daycare worker or camp counselor, lifeguard, Jr. Guard, swim coach, tutor, etc.
  • As a bonus, maybe you have taken classes in biology, marine biology, or environmental sciences.
  • You enjoy interacting and exploring in nature and want to inspire that same curiosity in others
  • You enjoy tide pooling & can identify species of marine animals and fish
  • You are kind, assertive, have unlimited patience, and you know how to connect with and provide support to your students.
  • You are a highly organized professional who knows how to manage your time and your students with confidence.
  • You are a creative problem solver and can effectively address behavioral issues with confidence and kindness
  • You have a history of being reliable and punctual - with 3 professional references that will sing your praises.
  • You are available to start effective immediately.

Duties & Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for aiding the Head Teacher. This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Working with the Head Teacher to make sure students are signed in and out by a parent.
  • Assisting the Head Teacher with carrying out the day’s lesson plan which is pre-created and given to you in advance (welcome, directing an activity/game, book, lesson, guided beach exploration, snack and playtime, facilitating art project).
  • Using assertive and kind communication and discipline to manage the class smoothly and effectively; continually checking for understanding.
  • Being creative on-the-spot to make the most of learning moments for students to learn, understand, have fun, and appreciate the ocean, animals, plants, and one another.
  • You are available to start immediately

Class Times: Monday from 9:30am - 12:30 pm. Our Teachers and TAs are required to be onsite 30 minutes prior for set-up; your shift will end after students are checked out, which takes approx. 15 minutes.

Compensation: $18-$20/hr DOE

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
