Work Status: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Lantern staff may be asked to change their work schedule and hours depending on the agency's operational needs.

Where You Will Work: This position serves multiple supportive housing sites in the Brooklyn and Manhattan areas.
About the Role: The Nutritionist supports residents in Lantern’s supportive housing programs by providing individualized nutrition counseling and education to promote overall health and wellness. This role works closely with case management and program staff to address clients’ dietary needs, particularly for those managing chronic health conditions, mental illness, substance use, or other medical concerns.
The Nutritionist develops practical, sustainable nutrition plans that consider each client’s health goals, cultural background, and access to food resources, while also facilitating group workshops to promote healthy eating habits and long-term stability.
Essential Functions

Assess clients’ nutritional needs based on medical history, lifestyle, and health goals.Develop and implement individualized nutrition plans and recommendations.Educate clients on proper diet, nutrition principles, and healthy lifestyle choices.Monitor and evaluate clients’ progress and adjust plans as needed.Stay informed of the latest research and trends in nutrition and health science.Collaborate with healthcare professionals to support comprehensive patient care.Maintain detailed client records and confidentiality in accordance with privacy regulations.Conduct group nutrition education sessions and workshops.
Required Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, or a related field.Minimum of two years of experience teaching nutrition curriculums and must have food experience.Possession of a valid Food Handler’s License, or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire, is required.Proven experience in clinical, community, or private nutrition counseling.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to motivate and support clients in achieving health goals.Knowledge of dietary supplements and nutrition-related medical conditions.
Preferred Requirements
Certification or licensure as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or equivalent (if applicable).Master’s degree preferred.
Work Environment: This job operates in the office and supportive housing environment and works with a population who may experience mental illness, substance use, disability, HIV/AIDS, and other chronic illnesses.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, climb stairs, and/ or kneel. Occasionally, the employee will have to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
