Job Description

Lanteris Space Systems is currently seeking an Alignment Manufacturing Engineer to join our Composites Technology team in Palo Alto, CA. We have an amazing team coordinating and overseeing all areas of composite production. We are looking for an impressive engineer to support precision measurements for our high-performance antenna products. In this role, you will specialize in measuring and reporting on critical features of antenna components and tooling, using laser trackers and measurement software. Work closely with design engineers to support hardware measurements and design improvements. Secondary job assignments are learning and supporting all aspects of composite part production from layup, to cure, to assembly.

What You'll Do Day-to-day (with Your Colleagues)

  • Primary responsibility will be to set up measurement equipment and measurement plans for antenna components.
  • Measure using laser trackers or oversee the measurement process by other employees
  • Analyze and reduce measurement data for inspection reports
  • Engage with design engineers to evaluate and troubleshoot as built hardware
  • Engage with design engineers to review and approve engineering drawings and tooling assemblies, provide feedback to tool designers to facilitate tool setup and measurements
  • Research and coordinate implementation of upgraded software into measurement process. Update measurement processes to take advantage of added capabilities and technology advancements.
  • Gain exposure and general manufacturing engineering experience in a high-volume, aerospace composite department, delivering space-qualified flight hardware to multiple departments within Lanteris and multiple customers across the nation.
  • Directly support and oversee the fabrication of precision aerospace hardware, gaining opportunities to influence designs, improve processes and increase reliability.
  • Review, update, and manage various training and process documents, coordinate new employee training and support the process of quickly inserting new engineers and employees into similar roles.
  • Evaluate and inventory new and existing tooling
  • Evaluate and procure support materials for projects
  • Support the department’s Antenna Test Manufacturing Engineer
  • Provide project status to management

Minimum Requirements For This Position

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, composite engineering, industrial technology, industrial management, or a related field
  • 5 years of experience
  • Ability to spend entire workday in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Willing to travel up to 5% domestically

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Laser Tracker and Photogrammetry equipment and measurement techniques
  • Experience with Spatial Analyzer, V-Stars, Imageware, Creo, and FiberSim or similar software programs
  • Possess experience and understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance principles
  • Prior composite production experience with aerospace structures and assembly tooling
  • Possesses strong writing skills with an ability to define and document processes, author and release composite manufacturing instructions, training programs, tools, capital equipment, and integrate the use of new technology into the measurement processes
  • Possesses strong verbal communication skill. Ability to address various audiences and clearly communicate ideas and concepts. Ability to incorporate feedback and accept input received
  • Ability to identify problems and take initiative to create a solution with acceptance from relevant stakeholders.
  • Ability to both generate new processes and improve upon existing processes
  • Ability to quickly become proficient and teach others in using various technology and software
  • Ability to take initiative and operate independently within defined responsibilities and directions

The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.

  • The base pay for this position within California is: $104,000.00 - $173,000.00 annually.

For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
