We are seeking a hardworking, physically resilient Nursery Merchandiser to join our team. This role is vital to our plant production and visual display, focusing on the detailed maintenance and organization that keeps our nursery healthy and inviting. You will work under the direct supervision of our Nursery Manager/Horticulturalist and their Assistant. Whether you are an aspiring gardener or just love staying active outdoors, this is a great chance to work hands-on with a wide variety of species in a professional botanical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Merchandising & Staging: Organizing pots on tables and assisting with interactive staging areas to create beautiful, shoppable displays.
- Nursery Customer Service: Providing friendly, helpful assistance to our everyday retail customers. You’ll answer general questions and help them find the perfect plants for their home gardens (major installation projects and large-scale clients are handled by management).
- Propagation Bed Maintenance: Keeping ground propagation beds pristine by pulling weeds and maintaining soil health.
- Plant Care: Daily watering, occasional fertilizing, and general upkeep of garden planting beds—including digging holes in our interactive "beds," new plantings, or transplants.
- Groundskeeping: Keeping the nursery tidy, including clearing debris and working in hard-to-reach areas under plant benches.
Physical Requirements:
- Heat Stamina: Must be able to handle long periods working in the hot summer sun.
- Mobility: Must be able to work while bent over, digging, or kneeling for extended periods. (Kneeling pads are provided on-site; personal knee pads are optional).
- Agility: Ability to crawl or reach under plant benches for maintenance and cleaning.
- Lifting: Ability to lift and move heavy potted plants and bags of soil (up to 50 lbs).
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Tools & Protection: Must provide your own pruners and gardening gloves. Use of a hat and/or sunscreen is highly suggested for sun protection.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow precise instructions from the horticultural team.
- A "can-do" attitude regarding repetitive tasks like weeding and organizing.
- Prior experience in a nursery or landscaping environment is a plus but not required.
