What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Lead - Senior Accountant position at Lange Accounting & Financial Services?
Job description:
Looking to lead a high-performing tax and accounting function without the typical CPA firm burnout? We are an organized, concierge advisory firm in downtown Franklin looking for a CPA with 5 years of progressive experience to step directly into our Controller-track Senior Accountant & Tax Lead seat — our #2.
We run an organized practice with real structure behind it: documented processes, weekly priorities, and clear scorecards — so expectations are explicit and operational chaos is designed out. This seat grows as the firm scales, giving you true ownership of our accounting workflow, review quality, and team mentorship. And we protect your time: a strict 32-hour work week June through December, and tax season capped at 50–55 hours per week. If you want a transparent environment where the team sees the scoreboard and shares quarterly in firm profits, we want to talk to you.
Who we are
Lange Accounting is an advisory-first CPA firm serving contractors, professional services businesses, and medical practices on a year-round subscription model. Founder-led (20 years in practice, second firm), values-driven, and built on our SERVE standard: Standards we never compromise, Excellence in everything, Real relationships and real results, Values-driven decisions, Empowering financial clarity. This is not a January-pile-of-returns job — our clients pay monthly and call all year, and there is a genuine leadership path here for the right person.
What you'll do
- Review business and individual tax returns (S-corps, partnerships, and the owner 1040s that go with them) prepared by our team — you own final-level review quality
- Own the quality of our clients' monthly books — you're the final review before financials go out the door
- Concierge advisory: act as a strategic touchpoint for clients, translating financials into clear, forward-looking guidance — cash flow projections, tax planning, entity structuring, Tennessee franchise & excise strategy
- Mentor and develop our Client Success Manager — half this role is producing, half is multiplying
- Own extension season delivery (September–October) with the founder — honest work, and we say so up front
- Process ownership: streamline accounting systems and workflows, eliminate bottlenecks
Schedule & benefits
- 32-hour work week (Monday–Thursday), June through December. Yes, really.
- Tax season hours capped at 50–55/week — we staff and price so nobody works 80s
- Starting at $90,000 depending on credential and experience, plus quarterly profit sharing on an open scoreboard
- Health insurance: 75% employer-paid
- Roth 401(k) with quarterly entry after one year
- Tiered PTO, paid sick time, paid volunteer time off, and professional development assistance
What we're looking for
- Active CPA or EA in good standing (CPA preferred and reflected in the offer)
- 5 years in public accounting with genuine review experience — you have signed off on other people's work
- QuickBooks Online proficiency required — daily use reviewing client books across multiple accounts
- Depth in pass-through taxation: 1120-S, 1065, and complex owner 1040s
- You have managed or mentored at least one person and liked it
- Local to Middle Tennessee and able to work in our Franklin office
Nice to have: Tennessee F&E fluency; ProConnect, Canopy or close equivalents; advisory-model firm experience.
