About the Position
To maintain, repair, and overhaul heavy equipment, automobiles, light trucks, trailers, and various equipment. This Mechanic 2 position will be a specific assignment to Heavy Duty equipment repair and maintenance operations. The position's primary responsibility will be maintenance, diagnostics, and repair to class 5-8 trucks, trailers, construction, and specialty equipment, although the position will still be expected to perform the duties of a Mechanic 2 as outlined in the County's Mechanic 2 job classification.
About the Division
Fleet Services is responsible for providing a modern, well-equipped vehicle and equipment fleet that is maintained and utilized at the lowest reasonable cost while minimizing environmental impacts. Fleet and General Services Fund is associated with procurement, maintenance, operation, and replacement of fleet assets and are charged directly to the user department through rental rates. Fleet Services provide vehicles, equipment, maintenance services and fuel to County departments and several Federal, State, and local partner agencies.Schedule: Tuesday - Friday - 6:30am-5:00pm. Shifts may change per operational needs.

Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by completion of a two-year training program/apprenticeship in automotive or heavy equipment mechanics.
Experience:
- Three years of responsible experience as an automotive or heavy equipment mechanic.
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Licensing Requirements:
- Possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License at time of appointment.
- Possession of a valid Oregon Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within twelve months of appointment.
- Ability to obtain appropriate CDL endorsements as necessary.
Special Requirements:
- The selected applicant for this position is required to take and pass a pre-employment drug test before entering County employment.
