Operations Manager – Freight & Logistics
Location: New Jersey
Salary: $60,000 – $80,000 (DOE)

The Role
A growing international freight and logistics business is seeking a hands-on Operations Manager to lead and coordinate daily logistics operations across air freight, ocean freight, and domestic transportation.
This is a highly operational, floor-based leadership role, responsible for ensuring shipments move efficiently, safely, and on time in a fast-paced, time-critical environment.
The role will oversee both warehouse operations and the operational teams handling imports, exports, and domestic movements. This is not a desk-based role — it requires strong leadership presence on the warehouse floor and across operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations across:
- Air freight import & export
- Ocean freight import & export
- Domestic transportation
- Warehouse and cargo handling
- Lead, supervise, and support operational and warehouse teams
- Ensure smooth coordination between warehouse, transport, and operations teams
- Oversee cargo handling, loading/unloading, staging, and dispatch
- Ensure shipments meet service, timing, and quality requirements
- Maintain high standards of safety, compliance, and SOP adherence
- Act as the main escalation point for operational issues
- Prioritise urgent shipments and allocate resources accordingly
- Work closely with management, customer service, and commercial teams
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, efficiency, and service quality
Candidate Profile
- Background in freight forwarding, logistics, or warehouse operations
- Experience managing operational teams in fast-paced environments
- Comfortable working across:
- Warehouse operations
- Transport coordination
- Freight operations (air, ocean, or domestic)
- A hands-on leader who leads from the front and is present on the floor
- Strong understanding of:
- Cargo handling
- Time-critical logistics
- Operational workflows
- Safety and compliance
- Comfortable working under pressure and to deadlines
- Experience with WMS, TMS, or freight systems is an advantage
