Upholstery Technician / UpholstererCustom Furniture ManufacturerPosition Summary
We are seeking a skilled Upholstery Technician to join our custom furniture manufacturing team. This position is responsible for upholstering high-quality custom furniture pieces according to company specifications, design requirements, and quality standards. The ideal candidate has experience working with a variety of fabrics, leather, foam, and upholstery techniques in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Upholster custom furniture including sofas, chairs, ottomans, and specialty pieces
- Measure, cut, sew, and install fabric, leather, foam, batting, and trim materials
- Read and interpret production orders, blueprints, and furniture specifications
- Operate upholstery tools and equipment including staple guns, sewing machines, foam cutters, and hand tools
- Assemble furniture components and apply upholstery coverings with precision and attention to detail
- Inspect completed products to ensure quality standards are met
- Repair or rework upholstered pieces as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Work collaboratively with production, sewing, frame, and finishing departments
- Meet daily production goals and deadlines while maintaining craftsmanship standards
Qualifications
- Previous upholstery experience in furniture manufacturing preferred
- Ability to work with a variety of upholstery materials and tools
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
- Ability to read measurements and production specifications accurately
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to lift and move furniture components up to 50 pounds
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Team-oriented attitude with good communication skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with custom or high-end furniture upholstery
- Knowledge of pattern matching and fabric layout
- Basic sewing machine operation
- Experience working with leather and specialty materials
- Ability to troubleshoot upholstery issues and make adjustments independently
Work Environment
- Manufacturing and production setting
- Standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive hand motions required
- Use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and industrial equipment
