What are the responsibilities and job description for the Microbiology Lab Technician position at Lancaster DHIA?
Lancaster Dairy Herd Improvement Association (Lancaster DHIA) provides milk testing, local lab testing, and on-farm field services in the mid-Atlantic and Northeastern US. Our core values are teamwork, integrity, the golden rule, pride, and innovation. We are seeking a Microbiology Lab Technician to join our team at our headquarters in Manheim, PA.
The Microbiology Lab Technician is responsible for daily testing of milk cooperative producer payment samples, raw milk permits, and finished products. The incumbent receives samples and performs the required analyses. The Lab Technician will be performing milk and blood ELISA testing and PCR assays. The incumbent also performs other data entry and reporting duties. The Lab Technician must be available to work overtime as needed, including one weekend per month.
We are seeking candidates with a knowledge of basic Biology and Chemistry analyses (including ELISA and PCR) and dairy cow reproduction and breeding. Candidates should possess a knowledge, interest, and/or ability to become a PA Department of Agriculture certified analyst, a Milk Marketing Board certified tester, and a licensed PA Department of Ag laboratory director. A degree in a related scientific discipline and/or laboratory experience is preferred. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal, problem solving, organizational, computer, and scientific skills. They should also have a high attention to detail, quality, and accuracy on multiple or repetitive tasks while meeting deadlines.
