What are the responsibilities and job description for the Math Specialist position at Lancaster County School District?
QUALIFCATIONS:
1. Endorsement in Mathematics required or eligibility for Virginia licensure in secondary mathematics.
2. Valid certification to meet ESSA requirements with specific endorsement in the area in which assigned.
3. Applicants who have had teaching experience must have an acceptable rating for such teaching.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent or Designee
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide daily Tier 2 and Tier 3 math intervention services to identified students using research-based instructional strategies aligned with division curriculum and student learning needs.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and deliver targeted small-group and individualized instruction during the instructional block.
- Co-teach mathematics lessons within the classroom setting to support differentiated instruction, student engagement, and effective implementation of instructional strategies.
- Use student performance data, assessments, and progress-monitoring tools to identify instructional needs, group students appropriately, and adjust interventions as needed.
- Maintain consistent progress-monitoring records and communicate student growth and intervention outcomes with teachers, administrators, and families as appropriate.
- Support the implementation of high-quality mathematics instruction aligned to state standards, division curriculum, and best instructional practices.
- Participate in the development, review, and refinement of mathematics curriculum resources, pacing guides, instructional materials, and assessments.
- Model effective mathematics instructional strategies, intervention techniques, and classroom practices for teachers.
- Lead and facilitate professional development related to mathematics instruction, intervention strategies, differentiation, data analysis, and student achievement.
- Collaborate with school leadership, instructional staff, intervention teams, and special education staff to support student achievement goals.
- Assist in analyzing schoolwide mathematics data to identify trends, monitor student progress, and support continuous instructional improvement.
- Foster positive relationships with students and create a supportive learning environment that promotes confidence, perseverance, and academic growth in mathematics.
- Remain current on best practices, instructional research, and trends in mathematics education and intervention.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. A Masters degree is required. (Preferably in mathematics or Administration & Supervision PK-12)
2. A minimum of five successful years teaching experience in math is required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As per contract and board policies and regulations.
EVALUATION:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certificated personnel.
Salary : $53,368 - $80,646
