What are the responsibilities and job description for the Records Management Specialist position at Lancaster County Economic Development?
Description
Under general supervision, performs a variety of administrative duties for the Records Management Department/Passport Accepting Agency which is included in the Delinquent Tax Collection Department.
Receives County documents from all departments; stores them appropriately.
Performs computer entry of the location of records onto computer system for retrieval of documents.
Assist attorneys, paralegals, citizens, abstractors, and county employees in retrieving and copying of public record documents.
Works with all departments to provide records retention schedules and disposal dates as set forth by the Retention Schedule of South Carolina Department of Archives.
Ensures the proper and lawful maintenance of County records.
Examples of Duties
Sets up appointments with passport applicants, interviews applicants, secures necessary documents for verifying applicants' birth, citizenship, photographs, etc. Forwards required forms to the SC State Department processing. Collects fees for processing applications for both County and SC State Department processing. Collects fees for processing applications for both County and SC State Department, writes receipts, and deposits fees. Maintains security for all passport forms held in County office.
Will be cross trained to perform office duties in Delinquent Tax Collection Office.
Typical Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by one to two years of secretarial, administrative, or bookkeeping experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have excellent people skills. Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including a computer, adding machine, general office equipment, telephone, etc. Must be able to exert up to five pounds of force occasionally and /or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of at least ten pounds or more.
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisors. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted by disgruntled customers.
Able to speak multiple languages is a plus but not required.
