What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Nursing position at Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital?
Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital (LBHH) is a 126-bed, inpatient psychiatric hospital and start-up joint venture between Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine and Universal Health Services.
In addition to a general adult unit and dedicated adolescent unit, the facility offers services for treating those with co-occurring disorders on the psychiatric-medical unit, an intensive adult unit to care for those with severe conditions, as well as a women’s trauma unit.
The Director of Nursing is responsible for completing the following duties and tasks:
- Serves as a key member of hospital leadership and participates in the organization’s decision making structures and processes.
- Participates in the hospital’s strategic planning and contributes to the achievement of institutional goals and objectives.
- Focuses on 5 key areas: People, Service, Quality, Growth, and Finance
- PEOPLE: Creates an environment which supports employee development and teamwork to deliver compassionate patient care in a safe environment.
- SERVICE: Creates systems, processes and care standards to support the delivery of patient care in a safe, fiscally sound environment of service excellence.
- QUALITY: Provides accessible, timely, efficient, cost effective care by utilizing evidenced -based practice and continuous performance improvement.
- GROWTH/COMMUNITY: Fosters an environment that supports growth and community through activities, partnerships and shared goals.
- FINANCE: Supports an environment of financial stability to achieve the UHS mission and strategy.
- Maintain Nursing Policy and Procedure.
- Ensure safe nursing care is provided to all patients.
- Understand process of work flow and processes on the Unit floors.
- Understand Supply Management, Staffing FTE management, Position control and Budget involvement/management.

What Does LBHH Require for this Role?
- Education: Master’s degree in Nursing
- Experience: Five (5) years clinical experience with a psychiatric mental health population. Three (3) years previous clinical supervisory role in an inpatient psychiatric setting and administrative/management experience.
