QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Instructional Responsibilities - the teacher shall:
  2. Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.  Provide lesson plans, which would be available for substitute teachers to follow if the need arises.

b.Maintain a clean and creative classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interest of students.

  1. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in conjunction with those goals, establish clear objectives for all lesson units, projects, evaluate lesson plans, and educational activities designed to communicate these goals to students.

d.Employ instructional methods, materials, and lesson plans that are appropriate for meeting the stated objectives.

  1. Clearly present lessons to the students.
  2. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

g.Enthused and self-motivated to help motivate the students to achieve to the best of their abilities.

h.Make assignments that are clear and reasonable.

  1. Use evaluative methods, which are fair and consistent in determining the progress of students.
  2. Help students acquire good study and work habits (implements and supports school wide study skills program).

k.Assist the district's specialists in identifying and working with students with special needs.

  1. Plan and make arrangements for educational field trips, when appropriate, with the approval of the principal.

m.Perform other instruction-related tasks as determined with the school principal.

n.Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teachers aide(s) and/or volunteers(s).

  1. Professional Qualities - The teacher shall:
  2. Continue personal professional growth through professional reading; attendance at workshops, seminars, and conferences; and advanced course work at institutions of higher learning in accordance with district policies and procedures.

b.Counsel with colleagues, students, and parents on a regular basis.

  1. Support and implement school district policies and rules and participate in their modification for school improvements.

d.Speak positively about the students, but be observant and help them overcome any weaknesses they may have.

  1. Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner at school.
  2. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required whenever possible, which may include outside of school time.

g.Participate in and support school activities.

h.Not abuse privileges.

  1. Use discretion and consideration in speaking of other teachers and staff members.
  2. Contribute to the professional planning of the staff.

k.Accept group decisions professionally.

  1. Participate on a total basis in general school improvement.

m.Dress professionally.

n.Keep appointments and work assignments on time.

o.Use effective time management techniques to maximize the educational opportunities for the students.

p.Operate effectively in the absence of direct supervision.

q.Carry out all other job-related duties for the efficient operation of the school.

  1. Comply with school routines and rules.
  2. Behavior Management - The teacher shall:
  3. Be a good model for the students.

b.Assist in caring for school property by proper use.

  1. Maintain adequate classroom control for effective instruction.

d.Handle behavior problems individually when possible and involve the school principal as appropriate for the set of circumstances.

  1. Be fair and consistent in discipline.
  2. Maintain an atmosphere of mutual concern.

g.Be responsible for helping to maintain appropriate building-wide discipline of students.

h.Recognize the emotional and social needs of each student.

  1. At appropriate grade level, supervise homeroom, hall duty, and noon period on a rotating basis or as assigned.
  2. Work at extracurricular activities according to the established schedule and according to the provisions of the Master Contract.

k.Perform other supervisory duties as determined with the school principal.

  1. Professional Responsibilities - the teacher shall:
  2. Maintain a clean, attractive, and interesting classroom.

b.Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all equipment and materials within the assigned area generated on district inventory software.

  1. Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educationally related purposes during the school day.

d.Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.

  1. Requisition supplies, textbooks, and other educational materials according to school procedures.

SPECIFIC MANUAL DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:  Complete movement of hands, feet and all fingers.  Twisting of all body parts, especially wrists, fingers, hands, feet and body.  Excellent eye-hand coordination and body mobility are necessary.  Dexterity in both hands (hands doing different tasks at the same time) is extremely important.  Visual perception required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  Intellectual, sensorial acuity necessary, leadership, communications and organizational ability, maintains good working relationship with co-workers, effective oral and written communication, visual and auditory acuity for dealing with students and staff.  A strong command of the English language in the area of human relations is required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Climatic environment such as extremes of temperature, humidity (especially in non-air conditioned building) and occasional outside work during inclement weather are possible.  Hazards such as cleaning solvents, dust, moving some light equipment and possible furniture, drafts.  There are stairs in the elementary building.  The exposure to communicable diseases is possible.
