POSITION:                  Anticipated School Nurse (RN or LPN)

REQUIREMENTS:      Current RN/LPN License, Act 24 Arrest/Conviction Certification; Act 34 Criminal Clearance; Act 151 Child Line Clearance; Act 114 FBI Fingerprinting Security Clearances; Act 168 Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release and SafeSchools Training

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Qualifications:

1. Current PA Registered Nurse/ licensed Practical Nurse License
2. CPR/AED certification
3. Background/experience preferred in pediatric nursing, community health nursing, critical care nursing, medical-surgical nursing and/or emergency room nursing.
4. Knowledge of current Child Abuse Law
5. Required State and Federal clearances

Daily operations of the health room

1. Attend to student and staff daily medical needs.
2. Document all student and staff visits into etools.
3. Maintain field trip schedule and prepare first aid bags as necessary.
4. Maintain health records on all students, based on State Mandated regulations regarding immunizations, physical exams and dental exams.
5. Maintain AED according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Medication responsibilities

1. Assure that all medications have physician’s orders.
2. Notify parents when medications are getting low.
3. Clean and maintain inhalers as indicated.
4. Document receiving medications from parent, with parent signature, on appropriate form.

Supplies

1. Order health room supplies by the 10th of each month.
2. Maintain first aid supplies in field trip bags.
3. Make ice packs as necessary.
4. Organize and maintain loaner clothing and track use/return.
5. Maintain trauma bag supplies.

Screenings

1. Assist CSN with health screenings.
2. Complete screening rechecks as indicated.
3. Send and track referrals for screening failures.

Notify CSN of serious medical issues, health problems. Or other concerns.

1. Work with the CSN to complete emergency health care plans as indicated.
2. Communicate with CSN related to significant issues that occur throughout the day.
