HR / Compliance Officer – Heavy Civil Construction

Overview
Lambert Contracting LLC is seeking a highly organized, detail-driven HR/Compliance Officer to support our rapidly growing heavy civil and materials operations. This position plays a vital role in ensuring our company remains compliant with federal/state regulations while supporting our employees, promoting a strong safety culture, and maintaining accurate documentation across multiple divisions.
Key Responsibilities – Human Resources
Manage recruiting, onboarding, and new-hire paperwork for field and office positions
Maintain employee files, certifications, driver qualification files, medical cards, and training records
Administer benefits, PTO, and policy compliance
Support supervisors with performance evaluations, corrective actions, and employee relations
Oversee payroll documentation and timekeeping accuracy
Coordinate employee training programs, including safety and equipment certifications
Key Responsibilities – Compliance & Safety Documentation
Maintain compliance records for DOT/FMSCA, OSHA, E-Verify, I-9 audits, drug testing, ALDOT documentation
Manage company policies, handbook updates, and regulatory changes
Coordinate annual compliance reports, audits, and insurance requirements
Work with Safety Officer and Project Managers to ensure jobsite documentation is accurate
Maintain subcontractor compliance packets, COIs, W-9s, and prequalification requirements
Administrative & Company Support
Prepare formal letters, notices, and company documents
Maintain confidential information
Support project teams with documentation for heavy civil projects: roads, utilities, drainage, grading, concrete, quarry, volumetrics
Assist with vendor onboarding and office compliance procedures
Qualifications
HR, Business, or related field preferred; construction HR/compliance experience valued
Experience with DOT, OSHA, or construction compliance required
Strong attention to detail; able to manage multiple deadlines
Excellent communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office; construction software a plus
Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
