Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain utility base maps, SUE exhibits, utility conflict exhibits, plan sheets, profiles, and construction documents. 
  • Develop CAD drawings from field survey data, geophysical utility investigations, utility records research, and engineering design information.
  • Create deliverables consistent with ASCE 38 utility quality levels (QL-D through QL-A).
  • Coordinate with SUE field crews, survey teams, project managers, engineers, and utility owners to ensure accurate representation of underground utilities.
  • Review field notes, sketches, GPS data, and survey files for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain project CAD files, layer standards, naming conventions, and sheet organization in accordance with company and client standards.
  • Perform quality control reviews of drawings before submittal.
  • Assist in developing and improving CAD standards, workflows, and drafting procedures.
  • Mentor junior CAD technicians by providing technical guidance and training.
  • Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while meeting production schedules and client deadlines.
  • Identify potential drafting conflicts or inconsistencies and communicate solutions to project managers.
  • Support proposal graphics, utility exhibits, and project documentation as needed.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Utility mapping
    • Civil engineering plans
    • Survey coordinate systems
    • Topographic surveys
    • Construction plan preparation
  • Experience working with point files, surfaces, alignments, and survey databases.
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans, utility records, survey data, and construction documents.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

 

·        Requirements 

  • Minimum 7 years of CAD experience in civil engineering, surveying, utility engineering, or related field.
  • High School Diploma 
  • Valid Driver's license and driving records in good standing.
  • Candidates who accept an employment offer must undergo a background check.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) projects.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in CAD Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related discipline preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASCE 38 utility quality levels.
  • Experience with:
    • TxDOT standards
    • Municipal utility projects
    • Utility coordination
    • Transportation projects
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS.
  • Experience using Leica Infinity or similar survey processing software.
