Job Summary
Responsibilities include servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing water, sewer, or gas distribution lines. The candidate will be required to repair, replace, and maintain valves, fixtures, backflow prevention devices, and other associated equipment. Employees are reminded that they represent both the department and the university and are expected to maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance while on duty. The candidate will routinely work with other crafts and will be required to monitor contracted work and provide training to subordinate employees. This position is considered essential, and employees will be required to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to emergencies or natural disasters. These specialists work under the direct supervision of the Utilities Manager in the Facilities Maintenance department.
Essential Job Functions
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and fittings throughout the campus. Keeping accurate records of work performed while maintaining an inventory of plumbing supplies and ordering necessary materials.

Diagnosing and repairing issues with plumbing systems, such as leaks, clogs, and faulty components.

Ensuring all work complies with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with staff, faculty, and students.
Minimum and Desired Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED is required.

3-5 years of plumbing experience.
- Valid Driver’s License

Plumbing License and or certification.

5 years of direct plumbing experience.

Texas State Journeyman’s license
- Able to obtain a Backflow Certification within 6 months of completing probationary period (depending on scheduling).
Supplemental Information

Knowledgeable in repairing and servicing plumbing systems and associated fixtures and fittings.

Understanding of municipal water, sanitary sewage, and gas distribution lines to diagnose and repair related utilities.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and email applications.

Experience with a computerized maintenance management system.
- Demonstrate the highest level of performance and provide exemplary customer service to staff, faculty, and students.
