Job Summary
The Lamar University Police Department (LUPD) is seeking professional and dependable Campus Police Officers to serve in a part-time capacity. Officers will provide safety, security, and law enforcement services to the university community, ensuring compliance with state laws and university regulations while fostering a safe learning environment.
Essential Job Functions
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities

Patrol university property by vehicle, bicycle, and on foot

Enforce state laws, city ordinances, and university policies and regulations

Respond promptly to emergencies, alarms, accidents, and reports of suspicious activity

Investigate incidents and prepare clear, accurate written reports

Provide assistance to students, staff, faculty, and visitors as needed

Monitor campus facilities for security concerns and safety hazards

Testify in court proceedings when required

Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies as necessary
- Perform other related law enforcement duties as assigned
Minimum and Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must hold a valid Texas Peace Officer License issued by TCOLE
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergencies
- Ability to stand, walk, or patrol for extended periods
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to respond physically to emergencies and perform law enforcement duties in various environments
- Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Prior law enforcement experience, preferably in higher education or campus safety
Knowledge of Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedures, and applicable statutes
Community-oriented policing experience
