Custodian

Job Summary

The Custodian performs custodial maintenance tasks independently or as part of a team. They maintain a professional image while ensuring a clean, safe, and comfortable learning environment for students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming classrooms, offices, halls, restrooms, windows, corridors, and other public areas, as well as reporting security and maintenance issues in the buildings. Additional duties involve restocking supplies from the warehouse and delivering them to buildings, removing trash, and performing other related tasks as assigned. Work hours and locations may vary based on the university's needs, and overtime may be required with little or no notice. The Custodian reports directly to the designated Custodial Supervisor in the Facilities Management Department. This position is considered essential, and employees are required to work as scheduled when university offices are closed due to emergency situations or natural disasters.

Essential Job Functions

• Perform general cleaning tasks according to the schedule, instructions, and team cleaning procedures. These tasks include but are not limited to, mopping, dusting, cleaning, disinfecting, and restocking supplies as needed.
• Secure buildings and rooms as scheduled and/or after cleaning. Adhere to proper unlocking and locking procedures and follow key control and access card protocols.
• Respond to and clean up after floods and other custodial emergencies.
• Maintain a professional appearance and deliver excellent customer service.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 6-12 months of custodial or janitorial experience.

• Valid driver's license
• 2-4 years of previous custodial or janitorial experience.

• The ability to understand the required safety precautions with the use and operation of common equipment used to perform housekeeping and custodial duties.
