The Police Officer has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, enforcing the law and providing service, information and aid to all citizens as circumstances require. This position is also responsible for supporting victims of crime, preventing crime, suppressing disturbances, investigating criminal offenses and arresting offenders. The Police Officer serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). This is a full-time position that reports to LSCPAs Campus Safety Department.
This position has been identified as a position involving critical infrastructure as defined under Texas law. As a condition of employment, this position requires that applicants for and employees in this position be able to maintain the security and integrity of the critical infrastructure at all points during their employment with Lamar State College Port Arthur.

This position requires the ability to exert substantial physical effort. Visual and auditory acuity are required to ensure safety of faculty, staff and students.

## Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform law enforcement duties on the property, under the control and jurisdiction of Lamar University or as otherwise authorized or required by law
- Preserve the peace by the use or all lawful means, interceding, when authorized by law, to prevent or suppress crime
- Arrest offenders with or without warrant when authorized by law
- Investigate criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals, and recover stolen or lost property
- Attempt to locate missing persons
- Enforce traffic law by detecting violations, making violator contacts, placing violators in custody or issuing citations or warnings
- Investigate motor vehicle collisions
- Prepare various written reports narrating law enforcement and police activities
- Give credible and accurate testimony in the criminal courts of this state and the United States
- Confers with prosecuting attorneys, preserves evidence, and maintains confidential information
- Confers with local law enforcement, criminal justice and emergency response agencies on matters of mutual interest
- Provide assistance and support to the victims of crimes

- Comply with campus policies and procedures
- Other related duties, as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a Peace Officer license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
- Must demonstrate proficiency with equipment utilized in the performance of job duties (i.e., firearms, restraints, less lethal force weapons and techniques, vehicles, communication equipment, computers, investigative and surveillance equipment, etc.)
- Valid drivers license
- Fifteen (15) college credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university
- One (1) year experience as a full-time commissioned Texas Peace Officer
