Job Summary

Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) seeks a dedicated and student-centered Student Success Coordinator to support two distinct student populations on the Texas State University campus in San Marcos, Texas: students enrolled in the TXST-LSCO Gateway Program, and LSCO career and technical education (CTE) students pursuing certificates and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees. This position serves as the primary point of contact and advocate for both student groups, providing academic advising and financial aid support exclusively to CTE students, while delivering retention, event coordination, orientation, and administrative support to both populations.


The coordinator operates as part of the LSCO Office of Statewide Partnerships and works in close collaboration with Texas State University departments, academic advisors, and student services professionals. Academic advising and financial aid guidance are provided exclusively to CTE students, while retention efforts, orientation, event coordination, and administrative support extend to both Gateway and CTE student populations.


About the Programs

TXST-LSCO Gateway Program

The TXST-LSCO Gateway Program is a co-enrollment partnership between Texas State University and Lamar State College Orange that provides students an affordable, structured pathway to a Texas State degree. Students co-enroll at both institutions, taking LSCO coursework and Texas State courses taught on the San Marcos campus, while enjoying full student privileges at both schools. Upon successful completion of two long semesters and maintenance of a 2.25 GPA at each institution, students earn guaranteed admission to Texas State University without reapplication.


LSCO Career & Technical Education Programs

Lamar State College Orange offers a range of career and technical education programs designed to prepare students for high-demand careers and industries. CTE students pursuing certificates and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees attend classes on the Texas State University campus in San Marcos, receiving instruction focused on practical, workforce-ready skills. The coordinator will serve as a dedicated support professional ensuring these students have access to academic guidance, student services, and the resources needed to complete their credentials and enter or advance in the workforce.

Duties/Responsibilities

Academic Advising & Certificate/Degree Planning (CTE Students)

  • Provide individualized academic advising to CTE students on course selection, program requirements, and certificate and AAS degree planning.
  • Monitor CTE student progress toward completion of certificate and AAS degree milestones, ensuring students remain on track for timely credential completion.
  • Advise CTE students on course sequencing and how their credentials align with workforce opportunities and potential pathways for continued education.
  • Advise CTE students on TSI (Texas Success Initiative) compliance and developmental coursework requirements as applicable to their program.
  • Connect CTE students with TXST academic resources, tutoring, and faculty as needed to support their success on campus.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of LSCO CTE program requirements, certificate and AAS degree pathways, and applicable Texas State campus policies.

Financial Aid Guidance & Student Support (CTE Students)

  • Assist CTE students with understanding financial aid processes, including FAFSA submission, enrollment reporting, and aid eligibility applicable to certificate and AAS programs.
  • Guide CTE students on financial aid options including workforce training grants, Texas Workforce Commission funding, institutional scholarships, and other available resources.
  • Advise CTE students on payment deadlines, tuition responsibilities, and the financial implications of enrollment changes.
  • Connect CTE students with scholarship opportunities, emergency aid, food pantry resources, and other campus support services.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable navigator for CTE students facing financial barriers, linking them with appropriate institutional and community resources.

Retention & Program Completion

  • Implement proactive outreach strategies to identify and support Gateway students at risk of falling below the required 2.25 GPA at either institution.
  • Monitor CTE student enrollment and academic standing, intervening early when students show signs of academic difficulty or disengagement.
  • Develop and track individualized success plans for students experiencing challenges, connecting them with tutoring, counseling, and other support services.
  • Alert Gateway students to the consequences of dropping all TXST courses, including loss of student privileges and potential program withdrawal.
  • Track and report cohort-level retention and completion data for both Gateway and CTE student populations to the Associate Dean of Statewide Partnerships on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with Texas State University student success staff, early alert systems, and faculty to identify and intervene with students showing signs of disengagement.

Event Coordination & Orientation

  • Coordinate and facilitate orientation activities for both Gateway and CTE students, ensuring all new students are informed of program expectations, campus resources, and support services before their first semester.
  • Partner with Texas State's New Student Orientation (NSO) office to integrate Gateway students into university-wide orientation programming.
  • Plan and execute student engagement events including welcome receptions, mid-semester check-ins, program completion celebrations, and career and workforce information sessions tailored to CTE students.
  • Collaborate with the TXST Gateway Ambassador program and other student organizations to build community among Gateway students.
  • Organize workshops on topics such as time management, financial literacy, academic success strategies, career readiness, and credential pathways.
  • Coordinate student participation in campus events, student activities, and services at Texas State and LSCO for both student populations.

Administrative & Collaborative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records for both Gateway and CTE student populations in compliance with FERPA regulations and institutional data governance policies.
  • Serve as a liaison between LSCO and Texas State University departments including the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, and Academic Advising.
  • Prepare regular reports and data summaries on student enrollment, retention, and completion for the Associate Dean and Assistant Vice President of Statewide Partnerships.
  • Represent LSCO at relevant Texas State campus meetings, committees, and partnership workgroups as appropriate.
  • Assist with recruitment and outreach for both the Gateway Program and LSCO CTE programs, including participation in information sessions and communication with prospective students.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in higher education student services, academic advising, student affairs, workforce education, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, including first-generation college students and career/technical education students.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-institutional environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Workforce Education, or a related field.
  • Experience advising students in career and technical education, workforce development, or applied science programs.
  • Experience with co-enrollment, dual-enrollment, or partnership programs between higher education institutions.
  • Familiarity with Texas State University and/or Lamar State College Orange systems, processes, and academic offerings.
  • Knowledge of Texas Workforce Commission funding, workforce training grants, or industry certification pathways.
  • Experience using student information systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft, Slate) and early alert platforms.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) preferred.
Supplemental Information

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of financial aid regulations, FAFSA processes, and Texas state financial aid programs, including funding mechanisms applicable to CTE programs.
  • Familiarity with career and technical education program structures, workforce alignment, and certificate/AAS credential pathways.
  • Ability to interpret and apply academic policies across multiple institutions and program types.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage a diverse caseload of students across two program types.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with data tracking and reporting.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • This position is based full-time on the Texas State University campus in San Marcos, Texas, and is employed by Lamar State College Orange. The coordinator will maintain a professional office presence and may be required to attend evening programming to support students who take classes after 5 p.m. in the Jowers Center. Occasional travel to the LSCO campus in Orange, Texas, or to other partnership locations may be required. The position involves frequent computer use, student meetings, and event coordination in both indoor and outdoor campus settings.
