What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dyslexia Specialist-Secondary position at Lamar Consolidated ISD?
Primary Purpose: Provide dyslexia intervention to identified students and conduct dyslexia assessment.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide dyslexia intervention to identified students.
- Administer and interpret comprehensive dyslexia assessment.
- Participate in RtI, Section 504 and ARD committees to collaboratively make decisions about dyslexia identification and appropriate interventions.
- Attend on-going staff development in the area of reading intervention.
- Attend dyslexia teacher meetings.
- Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to Board Policy, administrative regulations and IEPs.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for teachers.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Articulate the District's mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs.
- Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
- Attendance at work is an essential function.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise teacher aides and volunteers as assigned
- Supervise students
Minimum Experience:
- Four years of experience teaching reading
Minimum Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; Master’s degree preferred
- Reading specialization preferred
- Training in Dyslexia Intervention Program, preferred
- Training in Dyslexia Assessment, preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of reading intervention strategies
- Ability to administer and interpret diagnostic reading assessment instruments
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Physically able to monitor student discipline and progress and meet other student needs as required
- Physically able to move about the room to perform formative assessments a
