POSITION TITLE:
Technician, Student Information System
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: The SIS Technician provides technical and operational support for the district’s Student Information System (Skyward). This role ensures accurate student data entry, assists campuses with daily SIS functions, troubleshoots user issues, maintains data integrity, and supports reporting and compliance needs across all campuses and departments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
System Support and Data Management
- Provide daily technical and functional support to campus and district staff using the SIS.
- Troubleshoot system issues, identify root causes, and coordinate with the SIS Coordinator or vendor support for resolution.
- Perform data audits, validations, and cleanup to maintain accurate and consistent student records.
- Assist with creating, testing, and updating forms, templates, and reports within Skyward.
- Support data imports, exports, and integrations with other district systems as needed.
Campus Support and Training
- Respond promptly to help desk tickets, emails, and calls related to SIS functions.
- Guide campus staff through system-specific questions regarding registration, grading, scheduling, and attendance processes.
- Support training sessions and create user-friendly documentation for campus personnel.
- Provide one-on-one coaching and/or group training for staff as needed.
Reporting and Compliance
- Assist in generating data mining reports and performing compliance checks.
- Support the SIS Coordinator in compiling data for audits, enrollment counts, and accountability submissions.
- Ensure that student data aligns with state and federal reporting requirements.
Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with the SIS Coordinator and Skyward Support Team to ensure the smooth operation of all SIS functions.
- Participate in district-level projects and testing for upgrades, form rollovers, and new features.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance data accuracy and operational efficiency.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Perform additional responsibilities or special projects as directed to support the goals of the Technology Department and the district.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
- Three years of teaching/training experience preferred
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and data systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
