Position Overview

The Membership Director is the Club’s primary driver of membership growth and revenue development. This role is responsible for aggressively managing the full membership sales cycle—from prospecting and lead generation to tours, onboarding, and long-term engagement. As the outward-facing ambassador of Lakewood Country Club, the Membership Director ensures an exceptional, polished, and personalized experience for prospective and current members, acting as both a relationship-builder and a sales strategist.

This role focuses heavily on new member acquisition, pipeline management, membership category optimization, and revenue production, while maintaining strong alignment with the Club’s culture, brand standards, and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Sales, Recruitment & Revenue Growth

  • Serve as the Club’s lead sales executive for all membership categories, owning annual recruitment and revenue goals.
  • Actively cultivate and manage a robust pipeline of prospective members through outbound outreach, networking, referrals, community partnerships, and lead-generation campaigns.
  • Deliver high-impact private tours that effectively communicate the Club’s value proposition, amenities, and culture.
  • Coordinate golf rounds for prospects (tee times, carts, F&B credit, hosting coordination) to support the sales process.
  • Conduct prospect qualification, follow-up, and structured closing activities to drive conversions.
  • Track sales metrics, lead activity, conversion rates, and revenue progress in CRM and membership systems.
  • Present recruitment updates, forecasting, and strategic insights at Membership Committee meetings.

Onboarding & New Member Integration

  • Manage the entire onboarding process for new members—including applications, billing setup, approvals, and system entry.
  • Develop personalized onboarding plans that increase early engagement.
  • Write and publish new member profiles for newsletters and Club communications.
  • Host and promote new-member receptions and introductory events to build early connections.

Marketing, Branding & Lead Generation

  • Develop innovative membership marketing strategies, digital campaigns, and local outreach.
  • Oversee membership communications across newsletters, email marketing, social media, and targeted prospect messaging.
  • Leverage appropriate technological tools to enhance outbound prospecting efforts.
  • Align marketing efforts with the Club’s brand positioning and membership goals.
  • Utilize member feedback, surveys, and data to refine marketing strategies.

Member Experience & Engagement

  • Serve as a polished, accessible point of contact for members regarding membership categories, upgrades, guest policies, and engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the events, golf, and F&B teams to promote participation in Club programming that enhances value and retention.
  • Support the Member Relations function (led by the Director of Member Relations) with information flow, communication, and alignment.

Data Management, Reporting & Administration

  • Maintain accurate member records in Northstar, ForeTees, and CRM platforms.
  • Prepare Membership Committee packets (agendas, minutes, applications, changes, resignations) with attention to detail and timeliness.
  • Monitor membership activity, the golf waitlist, and category management to optimize Club capacity and revenue.
  • Process membership billing for new members, status changes, and resignations.

Team Collaboration & Strategic Support

  • Contribute to departmental planning and sales forecasting efforts.
  • Collaborate across departments to achieve Club goals.
  • Assist with cross-department initiatives that impact member engagement and brand perception.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the Membership Department and Club leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Hospitality, or related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in sales-driven roles, ideally in private clubs, hospitality, luxury services, or membership-based organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving sales targets and managing a structured pipeline.
  • Strong understanding of golf, private club operations, and membership culture.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • High-level organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, CRM platforms, and club management software (ForeTees, Northstar).
  • Self-motivated, driven, polished, and professional with a refined customer-service mindset.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Total Compensation Target: $100,000–$120,000 annually (Base Salary Commission)
  • Base Salary: $60,000–$75,000 depending on experience
  • Commission Structure:
  • Earn a commission on each new membership enrolled, based on membership category
  • Commissions are paid monthly after membership approval and receipt of initiation fees
  • Uncapped Commissions
