Duties
- Supervise and manage nursing staff, including scheduling, performance evaluations, and professional development to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Oversee patient assessments, ensuring accurate documentation of vital signs, medical history, and physiological data using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems.
- Coordinate clinical activities such as medication administration, IV infusion, catheter care, tube feeding, and ventilator management in compliance with HIPAA and state healthcare regulations.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations, physical examinations, and medical documentation to support treatment plans across acute care settings including ICU, emergency medicine, and long-term care facilities.
- Ensure adherence to nursing policies, infection control protocols, and safety standards while managing care for patients with complex needs such as dementia, behavioral health issues, or developmental disabilities.
- Facilitate discharge planning, case management, utilization review, and utilization management processes to optimize patient outcomes and resource utilization.
- Lead team meetings to promote effective communication using managerial communication skills while fostering a positive work environment focused on teamwork and continuous improvement.
Skills
- Extensive experience working with EMR/EHR systems such as Point Click Care (PCC); proficient in ICD-9/10 coding for accurate medical documentation.
- Strong background in critical & intensive care including ICU, Level I & Level II trauma centers, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), neonatal ventilator management, and acute pain management.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience managing nursing teams within hospital medicine, medical-surgical units, or long-term care facilities.
- Proficiency in performing venipuncture, phlebotomy, sterile processing techniques, specimen collection/processing, and aseptic techniques.
- Knowledge of physiology principles related to patient assessment, airway management including ventilator use, catheterization procedures, and medication administration.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA and long-term care regulations; capable of ensuring compliance with all relevant policies.
- Excellent communication skills for managing multidisciplinary teams; experience in training staff on ICD coding, CPT coding for procedures like gastric lavage or spinal tap.
- Ability to handle complex cases involving dementia care or behavioral health; experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges is highly valued.
