Job Summary
The Director of Music is responsible for developing and leading a spirit-filled music ministry to enhance Sunday services. This person is expected to develop and expand the music ministry by creatively partnering with community organizations as to create musical opportunities that serve the community. The director will also meet regularly with the pastor and church leadership to prepare for worship experiences.
Duties
- Lead and conduct rehearsals, ensuring that all musicians (instrumentalist and vocalist) understand their parts and are prepared for performances.
- Select appropriate repertoire that aligns with the organization's mission and audience expectations.
- Communicate effectively with musicians, providing clear instructions and constructive feedback to enhance their skills.
- Participate in the preparation of the worship service, weekly.
- Select music for the music ministry each week as well as special programs
- Hold a rehearsal for musicians and singers regularly
Experience
- Experience in playing Christian and Gospel music with an emphasis on hymns, spirituals, contemporary gospel, and other sacred church music
- Strong background in music education or performance is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of musicians.
- Experience in mentoring or coaching individuals in a musical context is a plus.
- Leadership skills that foster teamwork and collaboration among musicians are crucial for success in this role.
