Transportation Specialist

Lakeside School
Seattle, WA Full Time
POSTED ON 1/2/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/2/2026

Department: Business Office
Position Type: Full-Time, Full-Year

Lakeside School’s transportation services currently include a network of custom AM/PM bus routes operated in partnership with King County Metro and private providers. In addition, we own and manage a fleet of minibuses used for athletics, field trips, events, and Outdoor Program travel, for which activities we also rent charter buses when needed. These operations are currently coordinated across multiple departments.

Transportation and parking have been identified in the school’s recent strategic plan as key infrastructure priorities to ensure equitable access to our educational programs for all students. We are now moving toward a more unified approach, to consolidate these services into a comprehensive transportation program that encompasses daily commuting, parking management, events and activities transportation, and future sustainability goals.

To support this work, we are seeking a Transportation Specialist to partner with our half-time Transportation Manager in developing, implementing, and maintaining an integrated, efficient, equitable, safe, and seamless transportation system for the school community.

Key Responsibilities

Home-to-School Transportation:

  • Work closely with the Transportation Manager in coordinating and executing all AM/PM transportation services.
  • Work closely with the Transportation Manager to research, initiate and implement home-to-school pilot programs.
  • Work closely with the Transportation Manager and school leadership to design and implement a comprehensive transportation program in alignment with the school’s larger strategic plan.
  • Provide backup support for home-to-school route logistics during absences, emergencies, or peak periods.

Trip & Off Campus Event Transportation:

  • Work closely with Athletics department staff to coordinate minibus fleet usage.
  • Coordinate transportation with all other user departments for off-campus activities such as field trips, performing arts, service learning, retreats, etc.
  • Liaise with faculty and staff to plan trip logistics, including timing, and vehicle and driver needs.
  • Ensure timely cross- departmental communication regarding trip details and transportation arrangements.
  • Collaborate closely with the facilities and maintenance department which ensures fleet safety, compliance, and operational readiness by tracking vehicle usage, service, maintenance, and inspection schedules; maintaining accurate documentation for licensing and insurance; coordinating driver training, certification, and eligibility tracking (including background checks and driving abstracts); and supporting the implementation of safety protocols and emergency procedures across all transportation activities.

Parking Operations:

  • Work closely with the Community Safety team to strategically plan and coordinate designated parking zones for faculty, staff, students, visitors, and service vehicles.
  • Creatively provide solutions to meet changing needs and to improve parking capacity for regular school days as well as larger events.
  • Research and implement alternatives to driving for both students and staff to reduce the need for on-campus parking.

Miscellaneous:

  • Work closely with the Community Safety and Communications teams to strengthen neighborhood relationships around transportation and parking management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years experience in transportation planning, coordination, logistics, and fleet management.
  • Prior experience in a school, nonprofit, or campus-based setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Must communicate clearly and professionally with all stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to student safety and well-being.
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to support broader operations while working across multiple departments.
  • Calm under pressure and responsive in dynamic situations.
