Position Summary
Maintain in a clean and orderly condition any designated lavatories, classrooms, shops, offices, and common areas, in all owned and leased Lakeside Educational Network facilities. As part of the facilities management team all department staff are here to serve and help our fellow staff and clients with a servant hood attitude. There may be times when this position will require flexibility and patience.
Full-time, second shift beginning at 2:30 PM.
Must have valid PA Driver’s License, a good driving record and own transportation. No public transportation available.
Job Function
Employee will be expected to function in all Facilities Management areas as directed by the Vice President of Facilities Management and/or Supervisor.
Essential Functions/Major Duties
Performing general cleaning operations in the following areas: In and near designated restrooms, classrooms, shops, offices, and common areas. Empty waste receptacles and large recycle bins into collection bins. Clean floor areas by sweeping, dusting, damp mopping and buffing. Perform other janitorial duties such as cleaning furniture, vacuuming carpets, drapes, dusting window sills and molding; cleaning stairs, glass doors and panels; vacuuming and removing spots from carpets; cleaning and disinfecting drinking fountains; and washing soiled areas of partitions, doors, and walls; disinfect telephones handsets. As conditions require, strip, wax and polish floor areas. Maintain restrooms in a clean and orderly manner by mopping floors; window sills and other surfaces; washing basins, doors, partitions, and soiled areas of walls; mirrors, windows, blinds and similar items; and cleaning and disinfecting fixtures. Clean and fill all dispensing equipment on a daily basis.
Work from simple verbal instructions, work orders generated by hand or computer, janitor’s handbook and cleaning schedule.
Perform associated duties as assigned, including surveillance, cleaning snow from walkways at building approaches, application of de-icer when necessary and facility emergencies, which may require working on Saturday and/or Sunday.
Requirements
Experience
Minimum 2 years of custodial experience. Must understand how to work industrial equipment like floor buffers, stripping machines, floor washers. General knowledge of the use of janitorial hand tools and equipment.
Representative Products, Material and Processes
Materials - Water, cleaners, soaps, detergents, wax, polish, disinfectant, sweeping, absorbents and compounds, de-icer, and special cleaning solutions for glass and plastics.
Products - Clean floors, walks, walls, fixtures, furniture, exhibit cases, white boards and chalkboards.
Processes - Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, shoveling, polishing, buffing, washing, stripping, waxing, wiping and dusting.
Representative Machines, Equipment and Tools Used
Industrial and household vacuum cleaners and electric or battery powered sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, polishing and buffing machines. General use: janitorial hand tools and equipment such as brooms, mops, snow shovels, street brooms, pails, wringers, sponges, dusters and mopping assembly.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day.
