Lakeside - Worker/Laborer Job Description

Job Title: Worker/Laborer
Reports To: Foreman / Project Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Cumberland, Maine, or Newport, Maine, with daily travel to jobsites across the state.

Position Overview

The Worker/Laborer is responsible for assisting with concrete cutting, asbestos abatement, and demolition projects, with proper training provided for each division. This is a hands-on role that requires a strong work ethic, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to work effectively as part of a crew. Laborers perform physically demanding tasks, support equipment operation, and ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality completion of assigned work.

Key Responsibilities

Job Performance & Support

  • Perform demolition, concrete cutting, coring, drilling, and material removal tasks under the direction of the Foreman after being properly trained for each task.
  • Assist with asbestos abatement and hazardous material removal following strict compliance standards and PPE requirements. Maine DEP training will be provided before engaging in this work.
  • Load, unload, and stage tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Prepare and maintain clean, safe job sites; complete debris removal and proper waste handling.
  • Take pre- and post-work photos using the CompanyCam app, as directed.
  • Report discrepancies in site conditions or safety concerns immediately to the Foreman.
  • Support completion of daily work orders, time records, and safety forms.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company, OSHA, and environmental safety procedures at all times.
  • Wear and properly maintain required PPE (respirators, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, vests, gloves, steel-toe boots).
  • Participate in pre-task safety meetings and hazard assessments before beginning work.
  • Stop work and notify supervisors when unsafe conditions are identified.
  • Assist in reporting near-miss incidents, accidents, or equipment hazards.

Equipment & Tools

  • Operate hand tools and demolition equipment such as sledgehammers, jackhammers, grinders, reciprocating saws, drills, and concrete saws.
  • Assist in operating equipment such as scissor lifts, skid steers, and mini-excavators, with training provided as necessary to ensure safe and effective use.
  • Perform basic equipment checks and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Assist in driving company vehicles, loading trailers, or transporting materials when assigned.

Teamwork & Conduct

  • Take direction from Foremen and Supervisors, and work cooperatively with crew members.
  • Maintain professional conduct on job sites, promoting a respectful and safe work environment.
  • Demonstrate reliability through punctuality, attendance, and adherence to company policies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions clearly.
  • Basic knowledge of construction and demolition practices preferred.
  • Willingness to complete company-provided training and certifications (OSHA 10, asbestos worker training, respirator fit testing).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, including on uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, climb ladders or scaffolding, and reach overhead to complete job tasks.
  • Ability to enter and work in confined spaces, elevated areas, or restricted access locations safely.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to outdoor environments including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
  • Ability to work in areas with dust, debris, loud noise, and vibrations from tools or machinery.
  • Ability to wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, protective suits, gloves, hearing protection, and safety glasses for extended periods as required by the work.

Working Conditions

· Frequent travel to job sites across Maine; early morning starts and occasional overnight stays required.

· Optional transportation available from a Lakeside shop to ensure 7:00 a.m. site arrival.

· Work primarily at construction, demolition, and abatement sites.

· Regular exposure to noise, dust, vibration, moving vehicles, heavy machinery, and hazardous materials (including asbestos), requiring PPE use and compliance with OSHA safety standards.

· Year-round outdoor work with varying and extreme weather conditions.

· Requires constant safety awareness and effective teamwork in fast-paced, physically demanding settings.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior construction, demolition, or abatement experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be willing to complete all company-required safety and compliance training.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
