Responsibilities
- Assist with food preparation and meal assembly according to dietary guidelines and menus
- Serve meals to residents or patients with courtesy and professionalism, adhering to specific dietary requirements
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas following food safety protocols and JCAHO standards
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently during meal preparation and service
- Handle food safely by practicing proper food handling, manual handling, and safe lifting techniques for heavy items
- Support dietary department operations by stocking supplies, cleaning utensils, and ensuring workspace safety
- Work collaboratively with nursing staff and dietary team members to meet individual nutrition needs of residents or patients
Skills
- Previous experience in assisted living, nursing home, hospital, or food industry environments preferred
- Knowledge of food production, meal preparation, and sanitation practices
- Ability to adhere strictly to dietary requirements and special diets for geriatric or medical patients
- Strong time management skills to ensure timely meal service and efficient workflow
- Experience operating kitchen equipment such as ovens, mixers, dishwashers, and refrigeration units
- Familiarity with workplace safety procedures including PPE use, safe lifting practices, and manual handling techniques
- Excellent customer service skills with a caring attitude towards working with geriatric or healthcare populations
- Basic math skills for portioning ingredients and managing inventory accurately
- CPR certification is a plus for emergency preparedness in healthcare settings
