Job Summary
Lakeshore Primary Care Associates is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist with hands-on experience in healthcare billing and insurance follow-up to support our busy primary care practice. This position requires a detail-driven professional with comprehensive knowledge of medical revenue cycle, insurance claims, denials, and patient billing.
Duties
- Prepare, review, and submit clean claims to various insurance carriers electronically and via paper.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and appeal denied or underpaid claims; identify billing trends to prevent future revenue leakage.
- Continuous learning of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding and updates.
- Manage payor requirements and local Medicaid/Medicare nuances.
- Assist the Billing Manager by performing end-to-end medical billing and accounts receivable functions, including but not limited to posting payments, adjustments, and refunds and managing patient balances and insurance payments.
- Follow up on unpaid, denied, or underpaid claims with government and third-party payors
- Research and resolve billing discrepancies and insurance rejections
- Prepare and submit appeals with supporting documentation
- Respond to billing inquiries from patients, insurance companies, providers and internal staff
- Document all billing-related communications accurately in the patient account
- Maintain professional phone etiquette with internal staff and external entities and ensure timely return of billing-related calls
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA regulations
- Informs Billing Manager of any problem accounts or identified issues
- Participate in ongoing education, training, and departmental meetings
- Assist with additional billing-related tasks to support department workflow
- Stay current with industry regulations, updates in medical coding standards, and payer policies to ensure compliance and optimize revenue cycle management.
Requirements
- A minimum of two years of comprehensive medical billing experience
- Strong familiarity with ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems.
- Current working knowledge of medical insurance claims, denials, and payment posting
- Certified Coder and/or Certified Medical Biller, preferred
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Medent and MS365
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with providers, insurance companies, and patients.
Pay: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour
