Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that align with each student’s goals and abilities, ensuring compliance with educational standards and regulations.
- Design engaging lesson plans incorporating evidence-based practices such as applied behavior analysis (ABA), behavioral therapy, music therapy, and other therapeutic techniques to support student growth.
- Adapt curriculum materials to accommodate students’ sensory, communication, cognitive, and motor needs, including deaf education, visually impaired education, and early childhood education strategies.
- Collaborate closely with speech therapists, occupational therapists, counselors, parents, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive support plans for students.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive reinforcement techniques and behavioral management strategies to create a safe and nurturing environment.
- Utilize learning technology tools and assistive devices to enhance instructional delivery and student engagement.
- Monitor student progress regularly through assessments, standardized testing, and ongoing observations; adjust teaching methods accordingly to optimize learning outcomes.
Skills
- Proven experience working with children with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities in classroom or therapeutic settings.
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and individualized instruction planning.
- Proficiency in speech therapy techniques, literacy education, math instruction, and early intervention methods.
- Familiarity with classroom management strategies that promote positive behavior and social skills development.
- Ability to incorporate instructional design principles and learning technology tools effectively into lesson plans.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, parents, and caregivers.
- Experience in behavioral health practices such as applied behavior analysis (ABA), behavioral therapy, or behavioral health counseling.
- Knowledge of recreational therapy, music therapy, Montessori methods, preschool experience, toddler care, or library services is a plus.
