LCS COACHING EXPECTATIONS

Athletics exist at Lakeland Christian School for the glory of God

and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Game and practice conduct of our coaches is a major element of this testimony. What we do in Christ's name and in the name of Lakeland Christian School should reflect that we have placed ourselves under the authority of the LORD and the school as we demonstrate good stewardship of the young lives entrusted to us.

One outcome of athletic competition is to determine a winner. It is our purpose to train our young people to play within the rules, demonstrate Christian grace in every situation, win or lose, and to manage the stresses of competition so that character lessons may be learned.

In every instance we will treat out opponents with respect. We do not seek to humiliate opponents by running up the score or using intimidation or revenge tactics.

In every competition we will seek to offer our congratulations to our opponents (players and coaches). If we are congratulated by them, we will accept it with a gracious spirit. Every player and coach should be appropriately involved.

We will do our best to maintain good relationships with all who officiate our contests. No player or coach is permitted to upbraid any official. If officials need to be spoken to, it is to be done as identified within the rules. At no time is an official to be held up to public ridicule by a coach or player.

Coaching Responsibilies

  • Schedules are to be submitted to the A.D. or the athletic administrative assistant so that each game/match can be contracted in a timely manner. Any changes to the published schedule must be submitted to the A.D. for approval.
  • Coaches are responsible for staying with students after practices and games until all players have been picked up.
  • Physicals, parent consent and liability forms, and a certificate of completion for viewing the concussion, heat illness prevention, and sudden cardiac arrest videos must be on file in the Athletic Office before a student may participate in conditioning, practices/try-outs or games. The coaches are to have a copy of the physical and consent forms for each player with them at practices and games.
  • Coaches are to have a first aid kit at all practices and games. These are available to be checked out through the Athletic Department.
  • Coaches are required to submit team rosters for their team in their program to the athletic administrative assistant after try-outs are complete so that we insure the eligibility of all athletes. Rosters are to be updated promptly when there are changed made to the team.
  • All purchases must be approved by the Athletic Director or the Assistant Athletic Director prior to the order being placed. Unauthorized purchases may be subject to non-payment and will become the personal responsibility of the coach.
  • All fundraising must be submitted to the Athletic Director on the official form for approval.
  • Coaches can monitor the status of their budget through the A.D. to insure that they know what is available for their program.
  • Coaches should provide a complete practice schedule to the A.D. or athletic administrative assistant at the beginning of the season.
  • Varsity coaches are expected to report all game scores to The Ledger at the completion of the game. Completed stat sheets are to be sent to the athletic administrative assistant after each game.
  • Head coaches at all levels are expected to report game scores to the athletic administrative assistant after each game.
  • Varsity head coaches are responsible for being familiar with the requirements, deadlines, rules, and regulations published in the FHSAA manual (www.fhsaa.org).

Some Additional Responsibilities

  • It is suggested that you have a devotional time with your team approximately once a week.
  • Each practice and every game should include a time of prayer.
  • Live the Gospel daily and present the Gospel to the whole team at least once during the season.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times. Teach/model the value of cooperation, self-control, and the proper spirit of competition.
  • Check on your athlete's grade at the mid-point and end of each marking period.
  • Plan and supervise practice sessions in keeping with the age, maturity, and ability level of the player.
  • Establish and enforce the rules for the proper use and care of athletic equipment.
  • Have a pre-season meeting with the team parents.
  • Keep the student body informed about your team and its contests and promote your sport.
  • Inventory and store uniforms and equipment at the completion of the season. This is the responsibility of the coach, not the athletic administrative assistant.
  • Consider ways in which you can support the LCS athletic department and other LCS sports, especially during your off season(s).
