Job Summary:
The Lake Wildwood Water Otters are seeking an energetic, positive Assistant Swim Team Coach to support our Head Coach and help lead our youth swim program for the 2026 summer season, late May-early August. This role works with swimmers ages 5–18, helping create a fun, encouraging, and skills-focused environment that emphasizes technique, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Start date would be April 2026.
The Assistant Coach will work to support the Head Coach in both practices and meets throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Coach in running weekday practices from 5:00–8:00 PM Monday–Thursday and Friday from approximately 11:00 AM–1:00 PM.
- Help teach and refine stroke technique, starts, turns, and basic race strategies as directed by the Head Coach.
- Support the Head Coach in implementing the season training plan and daily practice sets.
- Provide individual feedback and positive encouragement to swimmers ages 5–18.
- Help supervise swimmers to ensure safety in and around the pool at all times.
- Assist at 5 Saturday swim meets and 1 championship meet (e.g., helping organize swimmers for events, monitoring warm-ups, timing or recording as needed).
- Communicate positively and professionally with swimmers and parents, while directing any major questions, concerns, or issues to the Head Coach or team leadership as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Head Coach and any other coaching staff to support team goals, team spirit activities, and a positive team culture.
Education and Experience:
· Previous experience working with children in an aquatic or athletic setting (e.g., coaching, swim lessons, lifeguarding, or similar) preferred.
· Strong working knowledge of the four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly).
· Willingness to learn and follow the Head Coach’s practice plans, meet strategies, and team guidelines.
· Current certifications in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED (or ability to obtain before the season starts).
· Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
· Must be available for weekday practices and Saturday meets throughout the season.
Preferred Skills
· Prior experience as a swim team coach or swim instructor.
· Experience as a competitive swimmer.
· Ability to connect with and motivate kids of varying ages and skill levels.
