Job Title: Wellness Coach
Job Grade: 1FLSA
Status: Non-exempt Part-time
Hours: 25 hours or less per week
Reports to: Program Director/Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum age requirement - 18 years of age.
2. High school graduate or equivalent.
3. CPR, First Aid, & AED certifications required within 30 days of employment.
4. YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles certification within 60 days of employment.
5. Foundations of YMCA Strength and Conditioning or YMCA Personal Fitness Program Director recommended.
6. Complete YMCA of the USA New Employee Orientation e-learning course.
7. Complete YMCA Policy and Procedures for New Employees within 60 days of employment.
SUMMARY
Responsible for greeting and assisting members in the Wellness Center, which includes orientation and coaching in the proper use and safe practices of exercise equipment. Responsible for the overall supervision of the wellness facility to ensure that members are following the posted facility use guidelines and that the environment is maintained in a manner that is clean, comfortable and safe in accordance to YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Information disseminated to members must remain in the scope of certification.
2. Exercise sound judgment in relationship to member safety & injuries. Follow all emergency procedures.
3. Continually and vigilantly monitor the activity of those exercising as well as the general use of the wellness center.
4. Support and enforce the posted facility use guidelines of the wellness center.
5. Provide exercise equipment orientations for members. Help determine their personal health goals, emphasizing all components of a healthy lifestyle. Explain, demonstrate and support the learning in the proper use of equipment. Fill out their workout chart legibly, note proper adjustments, sets, reps, and weight. Set a follow-up appointment to review or answer any questions that may have come up.
6. Represent the YMCA in a professional manner and promote a positive and cheerful environment.
7. Maintain the cleanliness of the wellness center facility and equipment, performing all required shift duties as specified by supervisor.
8. Attend and participate in all required staff meetings and continuing job training.
9. Visually inspect work area and equipment for safety and risk, report to supervisor in writing any problems.
10. Maintains positive relations with members and other staff. Models relationship-building skills including Listen First in all interactions.
11. Supports The Y’s Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards (HEPA), encouraging children, adults and families to adopt a healthy lifestyle and role-models the standards.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position will require sudden movements, sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and lifting. This position, by definition is physically demanding and requires the person to be physically fit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
