SUMMARY
The Fire-Adapted Community Liaison will serve as the liaison between Travis County Emergency Services District No. 6 ("District") and the community regarding all Firewise coordination. The Fire-Adapted Community Liaison will develop and manage Firewise neighborhoods in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association’s Firewise USA program. This role has a passion for community wildfire preparedness and community organizing.
This position requires frequent work during evenings and weekends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with District staff, volunteers, community partners, and local and state agencies to develop and support Firewise USA Sites in District communities.
- Work with the Fire Chief, the Assistant Fire Chiefs and department heads to plan, organize, coordinate and implement programs
- Work closely with HOA/POA managers and homeowners.
- Initiate, support, and document community meetings and actions leading to the creation of recognized Firewise Sites and the implementation of community Firewise action plans.
- Recruit identified at-risk communities into Firewise programs.
- Coordinate Home Ignition Zone Assessments and training throughout the District.
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvement strategies.
- Represent the District at community events regarding wildfire preparedness.
- Participate in District meetings and provide a progress report on Firewise sites.
- Drive and operate District vehicles and equipment.
- Other job-related projects as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Associate Degree or higher, preferably in Natural Resources, Community Engagement, or a related field; or related professional work experience
- Minimum of 2 years experience working with community engagement organizing or coordinating volunteer resources
- Experience working and organizing volunteers’ efforts using social media and online networking
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Experience working with homeowners associations
- NFPA’s Assessing Structure Ignition Potential (ASIP) course
- NWCG S130/190
- NFPA Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist (CWMS)
- Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills
- Skills in Project Management and organization
- Ability to effectively plan and lead small and large community meetings
- Knowledge of the NFPA Firewise USA program, as described on nfpa.org
- Ability to launch and support successful Firewise sites within the District to help residents reduce wildfire risks
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to handle changing priorities, multitask, and creatively problem-solve to develop and maintain positive working relationships
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, file sharing applications, and video conferencing platforms
