What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Bus Attendant position at Lake Shore Central School District (NY)?
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Able to relate to children of differing ages or cognitive level as well as with students with special needs.
- Communicate school bus ridership rules and maintain orderly behavior and assist students while on the bus.
- Assist driver in safe loading and unloading of students; training students in proper crossing techniques in cooperation with the driver.
- Physically assist children on and off the bus as necessary.
- Ensure all students who require specialized securement are properly secured in a 5-point harness, safety vest, or appropriate mobility device during transport.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Be willing to communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student behavior as appropriate.
- Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
- Able to assist driver in thorough pre-trip, post-trip inspection, checking the bus for items left behind and sleeping students.
