About Westminster at Lake Ridge

Westminster at Lake Ridge is a premier Continuing Care Retirement Community serving older adults in three levels of service: Independent Living, Assisted Living, and a Health Center. Our team of roughly 270 total employees serves a population of over 400 total residents on 62 acres that back up to the Occoquan reservoir. Westminster at Lake Ridge is certified as a Great Place to Work. We are CARF Certified, and Sage certified.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Long-Term Care Administration, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, assisted living, or healthcare operations. State-specific Administrator-in-Training (AIT) completion or eligibility is preferred. The successful candidate will possess a working knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulations and survey processes, along with strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities are essential, as is experience with budgeting, quality improvement initiatives, and staff supervision. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and healthcare-related software applications is required. The ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions is critical to success in this role.

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Community Healthcare Services supports the Director of Community Healthcare Services in the oversight and administration of Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, and Wellness Center operations. This position assists with ensuring quality resident care, regulatory compliance, operational effectiveness, financial management, and staff development. The Assistant Director serves as a leadership resource for residents, families, and staff and assumes responsibility for designated operations in the absence of the Director.

Key Responsibilities:
Departmental Oversight

Oversee all resident care provided by Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, and Wellness Center on a daily basis and to ensure effective and efficient daily operations and functions.
• Assist the Director of Community Healthcare Services in overseeing the daily operations of Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, and Wellness Center services, serving as acting administrator in the Director’s absence and providing leadership to ensure high-quality resident care, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and achievement of organizational goals.
• Support the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned departments by providing leadership, coaching, mentoring, training, and guidance to managers, supervisors, and staff. Assist with recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, employee development, performance management, retention, and conflict resolution while promoting accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and a culture of continuous improvement.
• Support and participate in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program by assisting with performance improvement initiatives, monitoring quality indicators, conducting investigations related to resident concerns, incidents, complaints, and grievances, analyzing data to identify trends and opportunities, and implementing corrective action plans to ensure quality outcomes and regulatory compliance.
• Serve as a resource for residents, families, and staff by addressing concerns, complaints, grievances, and service-related issues in a timely and professional manner. Meet with residents and family members to identify care needs and develop appropriate resolutions in collaboration with the Director of Nursing, Medical Director, Social Worker, and interdisciplinary team. Participate in Resident Council meetings and support resident advocacy initiatives to enhance satisfaction and quality of life.
• Monitor departmental operations, resident census, financial performance, and operational reports to identify opportunities for improvement, maximize efficiency, support occupancy goals, and contribute to the financial success of the Health Center. Assist in developing, monitoring, and managing departmental budgets, resource allocation, and expense control measures while supporting managers in maintaining fiscal accountability.
• Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, local, and accreditation requirements and assist with regulatory surveys, audits, inspections, accreditation activities, and compliance monitoring. Support the development, review, implementation, and annual update of policies and procedures for Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, and Wellness Center operations while ensuring fair and consistent policy administration throughout assigned departments.
• Participate in leadership meetings, strategic planning, operational reporting, CARF and quality initiatives, Manager-on-Duty (MOD) responsibilities, and other organizational leadership activities. Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to integrate programs and services, achieve operational, financial, and quality objectives, and provide recommendations to the C0-Executive Director regarding departmental operations and resident care services.
• Foster positive and collaborative relationships with managers, employees, residents, families, physicians, volunteers, community partners, and leadership. Communicate information appropriately to stakeholders, support organizational change initiatives, maintain confidentiality, model professional behavior, and uphold the organization's ARISE values of Accountability, Respect, Innovation, Stewardship, and Excellence in all aspects of the role
• Maintains compliance with community policies and procedures in accordance with governing laws, regulations, and regulatory agencies. Comply with all accreditation bodies and facility standards daily.
• Maintains current knowledge of all state and federal health regulations.
• Coordinates all community programs, services, and activities in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and CARF standards.
• Strives to achieve and maintain positive medical staff relationships. Works with the Medical Director to monitor medical staff compliance with all federal and state regulations.

Supervisory Responsibility

Acts as a leader and manager of assigned positions; ensuring productivity, efficiency and accuracy in work performed.

• In conjunction with Human Resources, ensures initial and on-going training is provided to employees as needed; ensures cross-training is completed as appropriate.
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with community policies and applicable laws.
• Provides coaching and counseling to managers of health center to strengthen knowledge and skill areas.
• Prepares and submits annual budgets for all designated units and departments for approval by the Co-Executive Directors.
• Identifies unacceptable performance and behavior exhibited by employees and takes appropriate action; utilizes progressive discipline policy when appropriate and maintains documentation as required.
• Conducts annual performance touchpoints of subordinate supervisors in the Health Center departments; sends a copy to Human Resources.
• Reviews all complaints and/or grievances and makes oral or written recommendations to the Co-Executive Directors. Follow up with all issues in a timely manner.
• Deals effectively with others in situations of conflict; Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict between two or more individuals.
• Establish and updates policies and procedures pertaining to resident care as appropriate.
• Screens, interviews, and hires new managers of the Health Center staff on an as needed basis.
• Updates job descriptions. Reviews resident care policies and procedures on an as needed basis.
